Sirens sound and PA systems announce warnings to remain indoors. Those too faint of heart pull the curtains closed. We in the "business" remain ever vigilant while the masses are directed to Arizona or California. In that Arizona experienced a cloud event today as well, California is bracing themselves for the onslaught.

I have a hysterical response for this ~ but I've decided I can't post it because the junior moderator from Cheesconsin would have a cow. It would only get me in trouble and I want to keep my impeccable 'zero warning points' status intact for at least another day or two.

Self-censorship applied. Motor on without my dry sense of humor. B)

That's a good way to put it, but today around here S is for "slop" as we got some snow/ ice last night and it looks slushy from my window. Guess I'll have to pull out the Toro?

I just looked out into the back yard and saw part of it is flooded (literally under water!) and noticed yesterday while swapping that filter in my 200 that it even though it looked like it should be swamp city, it was still solid enough to barely get any mud on my shoes.........I should have been all but sinking into it.

How do you know they're evil? Maybe they're friendly haboobs, just misunderstood and denigrated by haboobaphobes like you...

I've heard that you can see some impressive haboobs in many of the Vegas floor shows...

They reduce visibility, pollute the air, and get dust on everything...one of the negatives of living in a desert..

but they do make for dramatic photo ops..

Rob that's a terrifying sight.

Considering the magnitude those put my puny Las Vegas dirt devils to shame.

G

I'm usually at home or work when they happen, but a few years ago one hit as I was heading home...I got off the freeway as I saw it coming and parked at a gas station for 1/2 hour till it cleared..they are pretty incredible to watch...the one in the summer of '11 had a 5000 ft high dust cloud, IIRC.

Most of them are made in Scottsdale.

"S" is for Santa Anna" It's blowing again. Temp is in the 80. God I hope no idiots get it in their heads to light a fire. Last time it darn near burnt all the way to the Pacific.

We went from clear, calm and a little warmer than usual to heavy fog to rain to sleet and even some hail with thunder and lightning and now some REALLY heavy wet snow, several inches of slop already, all in about 12 hours. Now they say 50-60 mph winds coming on the back of this system. Then back to mid 40s and sun tomorrow, gotta love western Iowa

That's just their way of giving the city a big friendly hug! :P

BTW... "Haboobaphobia" is my vote for the best made-up word of the day... :P

A tornado demolished my favorite St Louis pub on New Year's Eve day three years ago. My son called me and said my personal barstool was in the street. Love the weather in the mid west..not.

Hoping your son saved your personal bar stool and saved it for ya. That's as good as owning one of those old stadium seats!

Here in the Toledo area we are .400 away from the record of snow fall. Now do we hope for the record (as if another 1/2 inch for the record will make a difference) or do we want the warm of spring?

We've had some melt off already, so another 1/2" wouldn't be sooooo bad right now since it won't be adding to the piles and probably melt off right away anyway.

Well, after 2 consecutive days of 50+ degree weather, all thats remaining is the debris shoveled up with the snow. Every corner is an archeological dig.

And they're predicting snow for tonight and back into single digits by Friday…. and I wanted to take the Barracuda out today but I can't! <Grrrr!>

Wednesdays forecast is 18 for a high, zero for a low. In the next week forecast there is not one temp over 30.

But hey, as each day goes by and we are one day closer to next winter!

Craig, let's do spring, summer, and fall first okay? LOL!

Yeah, no kidding!

It's definitely the end of February, though. While most of this week may be a bit cold, it's not even close to as bad as it has been the last several weeks. Mostly high 20s-low 30s.

It's been warm here in PA and the snow is seriously melting. I did no shoveling out front but my walkway has somehow reappeared. I wasn't counting on that until spring. What I can say is that the brook in my yard is running fast enough to be heard inside the house. And that's the run off of all the melting snow!
