10:30 AM, Friday, May 16...

Right now, right outside my window, it's snowing like crazy.

10:40 AM. This is a shot across the street towards my neighbor's house. Look carefully at the garage door. Yep, that's snow coming down!!!

This image comes from today's local paper (Tribune). Taken this morning in a northwest suburb of Chicago right near me. The guy is busy mowing... the snow!!! :o

Hey, he's got a contract with the city. He does what's on the schedule, period, done deal!

102 yesterday, 100+ today too.

It's extremely dry and drought conditions have been extended to most of the state. Fire warnings abound.

Ok, here is a new one------S is for----- STRAWBERRIES! The local berries are now in season $7 for three pints at the local farmers stand and oh are they sweet. To heck with the fires, I'm eating fresh strawberries!

Glad I don't have neighbors like you Harry, Packer fans and guys that mow the snow. LOL!

Actually the Packer fan is an ok guy, apart from the fact that he's a Packers fan!

Yikes!

I can't complain. Since our late-season snow a few days ago, it's been nothing but sunshine and 70s-80s. Picture perfect.

Of course, the fact that I live in northern Illinois means that can change at any moment...

If we ran our households moneywise like the cities and villages do, we'd all be livin' in the poorhouse. They SPEND like there's no tomorrow.

I used to be in charge of facility services for a large company property (1.3 million square feet, 100 acres) and it was like running a city. I took over the job in the spring after a really bad winter, like this past winter. Snow removal was in my budget, and just from the Jan-Mar season, we had blown the snow budget by 6x, in fact pretty much screwing my entire budget for the year. And I was expected to make budget no matter what!

Of course with budget cuts every single year, and minimal snowfall in previous years, it was always convenient for the manager to gamble on cutting the snow budget. So it was already unrealistic for a winter with actual snow fall!

I was fortunate that the following fall, we had no snowfall at all!

Hire a service, problem solved.

When I bought the house in PA, I had already picked out the tractor I was going to buy. We closed on the house and I didn't move in right away so I called up the previous owners lawn guy to see if he could do it a few weeks... when he said $30 to mow my acre, it was a done deal!
