racedriver25 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Was just wondering if the majority of us just build strictly car models or if you build models of other types. I build 1/32 scale airplanes, jets and props except WW1 aircraft (hate rigging), 1/24-1/25 and 1/16 cars, and 120mm figures.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 HO scale railroad stuff occasionally, 1/24 and 1/32 scale aircraft. Every now and then a boat or ship, and some flying RC models. I have a large-scale balsa Staggerwing Beech control-line model my father built before I was born that I'll be restoring next year.
Scott - Elm City Hobbies Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I build everything. Cars and Trucks, and 1/35 Armor mostly, but also build aircraft of many different scales, dabble in figures, Sci-Fi and ships. Likely why my stash is probably 700+ (which I know is still small compared to some). If I only built cars and trucks, or only built Armor....the stash wouldn't be nearly as big.
Guest Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Automotive only for me. I never have had an interest in armor or planes. My nine (soon to be ten) year old son has gotten into armor/military models. The kits he has bought so far are too complicated for him right now. I try to get him to buy more simple kits. But, he looks at the box art and thinks he has to have it even when I make him pay for them.
ScaleDale Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Mostly autos, but I started in the hobby with jet aircraft. I built the Shuttle recently and had fun with that. It sits next to my computer work station. There is a train engine called Big Boy that I want to build some day. I live in a military area and get buzzed by big transports all the time. Want to build one of those just for the heck of it. Dale Edited December 14, 2013 by ScaleDale
Danny Lectro Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I build Gundams and other giant robots from Japanese science fiction, sci-fi fighters and ships, real-world fighter planes both classic and modern, and real-world armor. I have dabbled with real-world Naval combat ships in 1/700 scale.
Agent G Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 1/35th armor, 1/24 and 1/25 autos, 120mm figures, some 1/72 armor and the occasional 1/48th aircraft. Haven't built a ship or a 1/72 scale plane in forever. Been at it for over 50 years now. G
slusher Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I am just a car and pickup builder. 1/24- 1/25 scale. I have not built a plane since I was a kid..
disabled modeler Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) I build mostly 1/25th scale but would do a few larger scales if the item was of interests...I build cars,2door,4door,wagons,vans,pickups,campers,semi trucks/trailers,farm,construction,speed/pleasure boats and dioramas myself. Nacho Z Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 If I was not an automotive builder I would build aircraft. I do believe that I would not limit myself to one era. I would love to take a crack at some of the Wingnut Wings kits. I am a sucker for boxart and I think the aircraft guys have the best . Funny thing is, currently I am on a big battleship kick. I have the USS Missouri, Yamato and Bismarck, all 1:350. I have a good bit of PE for the Missouri. Lots of reference books. The Yamato was Tamiya's loaded kit. The Bismarck is Revell's newer kit that got much better reviews than Tamiya's. I have a Lion Roar set and Artwox wooden decks for it, (so far...haha). I have already had a custom case made for the Missouri. For all of the guys who think car kits are too expensive, stay away from the military side of the hobby. I am thinking that ships have to be at the top of the pile for those who have to have all the extra bits to go with the kit.
Harry P. Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Besides cars I build: old 19th century steam locomotives, old sailing ships (wooden kits, not plastic), WWI planes (1/32 scale), motorcycles, cable cars, old electric trams and old buses, and all sorts of 19th century horse-drawn vehicles including (so far) covered wagons, stagecoaches, buggies and buckboards, a Civil War ambulance wagon, and a lot more. What I have no interest in building: modern (WWII or newer) aircraft, space/rockets/sci-fi, figures, or military/armor (other than WWI planes).
Mike Kucaba Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I have an itch to build almost all genres, but for now am sticking to automotive.
Deathgoblin Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Mostly cars now, but I still build resin anime characters and the occasional Star Trek model.
cobraman Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I used to build 1/35 tanks and dioramas and also WWII fighters but only cars and trucks for the past 20 years or so.

Amazing stuff there.

I am thinking that ships have to be at the top of the pile for those who have to have all the extra bits to go with the kit. Oh heay yeah! I just saw the 1/200th scale USS Missouri "on sale" for $249, then saw the "detail up" set "on sale"..............$339! Yes it's 50+ inches long and a true showpiece, but come on $580+ for a model ship? The lovely MrsG would be incandescently p'd over that purchase. G
Sixx Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I'll jump in. 1/24 , 1/25th autos, any scale figure, 1/35 & up military stuff. I do like 1/24th scale aircraft. Not too keen on ships. I dig some sci-fi stuff too
Guest Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Helicopters, some prop and jet aircraft and TOS Star Trek.
Daddyfink Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Military Aircraft and some Sci Fi models. I try to keep it diverse and open minded. But, as I used to say, if it is plastic and I can glue it together, I'm in!

Ramfins59 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 When I was a kid (actually I'm still a BIG kid) I used to build tanks and halftracks and jeeps, but I always blew them up. I switched to cars in the early 60's and that's all I've ever built since then. I build 1/24,1/25 & 1/26 scale because they are all pretty close in size and look OK on the shelf together.
southpier Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 1/32 narrow gauge railroad models (including structures)
Fabrux Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I have a few 1:1000 and 1:2500 Star Trek kits in the stash waiting to be built.
Greg Cullinan Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Not strictly auto but the majority. I like helicopters, motorcycles, scooters, airplanes and then Sci fi like battlestar gallactica. Star Wars and Star Trek. Just did a 1997 revell battlestar gallactica viper and I want to pick up the moebius.
