The Woody will have the Caddy engine for all those who were wondering.

Saw that...no biggie, the AMT '49 Merc is easy enough to source an engine from.

I really hope the 49 Merc will come with a separate, all stock coupe body... As much as I like woodies for being something different, I cannot see myself painting all that wood and making it look realistic.

Here are the pics Steve Goldman took of the '49 Mercury Woodie:

Looks like a modified reissue of the Custom Merc ..... no stock engine or trans. The rest looks all Stock

I know this sounds a little wierd, but I dont rember startin this thread.I thought this was posted in the nnl toledo thread?

Some '49 Mercury Woodie-specific posts were moved when this topic was created, so the timestamp of each posts ranks them, even after they've been moved. Your post was the oldest, so it's now the first in this topic.

I will have to get one of these, painting all the wood is going to be tricky job, but worth having a go at it ...

Does the current Revell '49 Mercury Custom kit include a totally stock chassis and suspension?

No, but it wouldn't be difficult to rework it to stock specs. Namely raise the suspension a couple of scale inches. The present exhaust system could be adapted into a stock version.

Yeah, this is another "must-have" for me. I don't care what engine or suspension it has. I can't wait to rebuild the wood parts out of real wood.

Holy Cow!!!!!!! I will never catch up!!! I still have not built the 41 & 48 Ford Woodies I have in my stash now!!!!!

I'd like it if it was a regular, non woody wagon. Though it's a great subject matter, it does not appeal to me personally because I cannot take wood on the exterior of a car seriously.

Re. that Cadillac engine - the only other game in town is the Mod Squad kit, which now commands prices that would have bought you a real Mercury woody not too long ago, but includes four rather daft looking figurines you can give your daughter for her dolls house.

So I see the Revell effort as a clear case of noli equi dentes inspicere donati. And low and behold, I just may find a bloody Flathead in my parts box, or just sod it and use the Caddy mill.

They could have included one or two surfboards though...

All 1:1 1949 Merc wagons were woodies.

Would make an interesting phantom though, if you'd smooth it and paint it one colour as if it was all steel. Maybe make it a four door at the same time? With rear suicide doors a'la Lincoln...
