Jantrix Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 So while I was researching my Cannonball racer three years ago (yeah, it's taken that long to finish) I discovered that Studes have been consistent winners in the Carrera Panamericana for years. Their aerodynamics for their age, makes them hard to beat. So after finishing it for the Cannonball it came back apart and I've been working towards this. My big hurdles were the custom Carrera decals. I started with the AMT '53 Stude Double Whammy kit and the Revell '68 roadster 2in1. The Stude front subframe was replaced with the Corvette unit, and the Corvette rear end and suspension slipped in with very little modification. Custom exhaust. The Corvette stinger hood scoop was spliced into the Stude hood. The minilites are from an AMT '73 Mustang kit. Scratchbuilt roll cage, safety harnesses. The safety netting was sent by Danny Edwards (a member here, I believe), I've no idea where it came from. The engine is the 427 from the Corvette kit, and it took a bit of tweaking to get it to fit. Enough talk, on to the pics.
Jantrix Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 A few more. And sadly I noticed this after the glass and the interior was glued in. I've decided not to worry about it, as I'm that glad to get it under glass. I guess it happened while I was installing it, maybe I flexed it to much.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 That is BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH awesome. Love it.
Bernard Kron Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 So totally cool! Beautiful model. Wonderful concept. And don't worry about the rear window. Those Mexican roads can be rough!!!
Jantrix Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Thanks Tomo. Bernard! Excellent point. You think if I write it down on a contest form, the judges will buy that? A quick shot of the chassis work. Edited December 31, 2013 by Jantrix
Lunajammer Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Now that's what I'm talkin' about. What a transformation! You think if I write it down on a contest form, the judges will buy that? If the quality of the window damage is consistent with the quality of the rest of the model then yeah, they'll buy it.
realgone58 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Rob, that's an awesome build! What color green did you use?
Jantrix Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Rob, that's an awesome build! What color green did you use? I used Duplicolor Almond Beige Pearl and Alpine Green Pearl. Shot right from the can.
Chris White Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) now that's a kit bash. Nice work, love the wheels Edited January 1, 2014 by Chris White
Erik Smith Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 That's a very cool looking model. I like cars with all decals. That modified hood blends nicely with the rest of the Studebaker design, too.
Jantrix Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Thanks very much guys. Except for that lousy rear window, I'm pretty happy with it.
