Jonathan Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Anybody tried to make a scale wooden ladder? Like something you'd see on a painter's van or truck? Seems it wouldn't be too hard, but I'm not sure whether to try and use styrene strips and the like, or should I get some small bass wood? Thoughts? thanks!
crazyrichard Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 i made this out of wood , simple and efefctive .. for a ladder on a bus it only needs to be longer and more narrow ... if you want the ladder to resemble a wooden ladder i would def. use real wood .. for a steel or aluminum ladder i would use styrene same > only painted and weathered
am73grand Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I think Plastruct has some scale ladders in their line.......
RatRod Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 The little ladders on this were made from wood..... Harry P did an old Fire Truck that he made some really nice wood ladders for, nothing like using real wood.
Modlbldr Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Definitely use wood. Then you can stain and age it as needed. Nothing like using the real thing. Later-
heepey Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Finished. These are Plastruct ladders cut to length and painted. They can't be nested together to make extension ladders exactly but are pretty close. Mock up.

the goon Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I've made them out of wood, and plastic; wood has a better look, but it depends what you're after. Mark

Jonathan Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Let's say I were thinking about a painter's van from the 70's. Wooden ladders? Aluminum? And yes, everything above is impressive!
