spotarama Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 this started off as the revell "Hot Rod" magazine issue of the '50 Austin Gasser kit, but a i don't like gassers so dump it in the weeds bacame the plan. it scored the full IRS (to which i added copper wire coil springs) from the Airfix E-type racer kit as well as its engine. wheels are original austin kit ones the seat is the original kit one with slots cut out of it and shoulder/neck bracing added the triple webers came from another kit whose name shall be forever forgotten (by me anyway), i made the straight out headers myself as well as the engine mounts the steering linkages, transmission tunnel and rollcage bits in white were also scratch built engine will be wired and maybe some basic plumbing, doors will be openable as per orig kit and the bit hole in the hood will be filled
DonW Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I like this a lot. The only Airfix E-Type I know is the kerbside 1/32, can you tell me more about the donor kit you're using, please? Cheers, -Don.
spotarama Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 hi Don, here are some pics of the jag kit, having ripped a fair bit of stuff out of it (the wheels went for another project), if it ever gets built it'll probably be with a monster V8 and a ford rear end, or maybe V8 mercedes power.... i originally got it from a swapmeet so i've no idea how old it is. sorry i can't tell you more
DonW Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Thanks Mark. It's a new one on me. I'm glad you're not treating it like some sort of sacred cow (can I say that?). I like your plans...! -Don.
geordie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I very much like the approach of this, like the kind of vintage circuit car you'd see at the Goodwood Revival......very cool.
jeffs396 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Very cool Mark! Diggin' the Anti-perspirant bottle portion for the trans tunnel!
DonW Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I was going to post a picture or a link to the Lindner/Nocker lightweight E-Type - but then I remembered this is about the Austin. On the other hand,,,
skymnky721 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Love those british road racers,,Ill take that Jaguar off your hands if you dont want it,,lol Nice job on your Austin.
bryan_m Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 neat austin........i love the old revell austin and henry j kits! cheers bryan
Paul H Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I like this a lot. The only Airfix E-Type I know is the kerbside 1/32, can you tell me more about the donor kit you're using, please? It's a reboxed Heller kit. Heller did roadster, coupe and race coupe (the one shown here) versions, all of which are full detail. AFAIK, only the race version was reboxed by Airfix, but the regular coupe has been reboxed by Gunze - not to be confused with Gunze's own roadster kits. The Gunze & Heller Jags are by far the best plastic kits of these cars in this scale.
PatW Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I'd like to get hold of one of the Austin kits. My first daily driver was an Austin Devon 1953 4-Door, in British Racing Green although she topped out at about 60mph I can't see why they used the green! I would scratchbuild a new chassis and also drop it in the weeds. Good progress so far Mark keep it up, and I look forward to seeing more as you go along.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) ... I'm glad you're not treating it like some sort of sacred cow (can I say that?). Sorry. I couldn't resist. Cool project. Edited August 27, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
slusher Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Would love to see some more progress on this. X3
