W-Machine Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 A lady that I have recently been keeping company with actually said, "I'd like to watch you work on a model." after seeing some of my finished builds. Frankly, I'm MYSTIFIED by this. I imagine that it would be like watching paint dry. I was able to talk my late wife into building a model in (I think) 1988, when we were dating and she was 18. Can someone explain this request from a woman in her late 40s? I reckoned that a woman of that age would know better.
slusher Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Craig, she must find you interesting and very creative. Something to talk about and do. Share with her what your comfortable with....
High octane Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Are you sure she meant model car, or the two legged kind???
drball Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I got my start as a young lad watching by father build plastic models and wooden ships. Some people find watching people practice there craft fascinating.
Custom Hearse Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) What she is asking is will you share your interest with her. She wants to be part of your life and to bond with you. It may not be the most exciting thing that you can think of, but to her, she loves to spend time with you and she wants to be part of your life... Edited January 30, 2014 by Custom Hearse
Erik Smith Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Tell her to mind her own business. No, just kidding. Maybe it could be like Patrick and Demi in Ghost, only with a model car... My guess? She wants to see what you like.
ScaleDale Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Dude, you think tooooooooo much! Just go with it. Show her what interests you. Dale

Craig, I believe Marshall may have hit the nail on the head, hey I would GO for it, who knows she just might get the bug and want to build her own!!
Jantrix Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Craig, I believe Marshall may have hit the nail on the head, hey I would GO for it, who knows she just might get the bug and want to build her own!! Yep. And don't try to use it as a teaching experience. Just do your thing and let her ask questions if she wants.
rmvw guy Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 It's called LOVE! I like to watch my wife read sometimes. I have acquired a lot of pencil drawings of her reading.
my80malibu Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 She could be a spy for another modeling club in your area sent to infiltrate your club, and gather all of your modeling secrets.
Belugawrx Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Deb wanted to see what I did in my spare time and ended up loving the hobby. Now she is on to her third model I need a bigger desk!! Or get her her own
W-Machine Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Who knew that the glue-sniffers who frequent this site had dating advice? I think that you guys are on to something.

Johnag4004 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I wish I could find a woman like that! Ditto... And Craig, we are NOT the sniffers of glue, we ARE however the sniffers of STYRENE...
charlie8575 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I wish I could find a woman like that! Second the motion. Craig, don't ask questions, just do it. Charlie Larkin
mikemodeler Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Had a friend who's girlfriend turned into his wife after many years of dating. She didn't know much more than how to put gas in her car. She started hanging around Jim, traded her 300ZX for a Camaro, and became a car nut like him and into the car hobby too! She has talked him out of selling some of his collection, stating SHE is too attached to see it go! Take it at face value Craig- she wants to spend time with you and see what it is about model building that you like and enjoy. As others have said, maybe she just wants to learn and start building herself! You might be able to get some nice fingernail polish from her for some cool paint jobs!
