Davewilly Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 OK.... Where did you get that 1:74 1/2 skull!!??!! Its not my model....But it looks like something you might find in some gaming/fantasy kits to me.
Obivion Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Last days I didn't have much time. So I did some small work. The headlights... not finished yet, but it gives an idea... Dennis
Jeremy Jon Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Is coming along very nicely Dennis, looking forward to more!!
Obivion Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Well, the Volksrod is almost finished. All I have to do is the black wire rims with whitewalls and the home made drumbrakes. Now starting to think of what my next project will be. A new Volksrod, a custom build classic Mini, a hot rod or a rod tow truck. I have about 35-40 kits on the shelf to choose from. I am sure it must be something that I can change a lot. I found out that I enjoy that more than building ringht out of the box. This is how the Volksrod is now. Hope to get it finished today, but I am afraid it will take some more days...
Chromecop Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Looks great ! Personally I'd left the "hairpins" out since You've kept the stock VW frontaxle, but thats just my opinon... The colour is awesome and the headlight buckets are way cool! and I'm really looking orward to see it done!
rustybill1960 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I really dig this bug Man! Very cool build Nice touch with the radius rods! Thank You for sharing Later Russ
crazyrichard Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 looking great .. and well the hairpins do ad to that volksrod look ...
mrm Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I had a chopped one that I was building into a Volksrod, but it got destroyed. Looking good so far.
blunc Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 looking great .. and well the hairpins do ad to that volksrod look ... I agree, the hairpins give the volksrod look but from an engineering perspective they cause a suspension travel issue that could result in them being ripped from their mounting points. Now...if the front axle assemble were turned around so that the torsion bar pivot points were facing forward, then the hairpins "could" work (from an engineering perspective), but this would change the look of the front end a little bit.
Modlbldr Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 That is looking great, but I can't wait to see it with the tires and wheels on it...... Later-
slusher Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 looking great .. and well the hairpins do ad to that volksrod look ... I do agree...
Obivion Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Finaly my Volksrod is ready. It didn't turn out as I wanted but... I am happy with it. I know it is not perfect, and if it was a real car I wouldn't drive it. But it was a great build to test my skills. I found out that I like to change the car more than I like to build it out of the box. The kit is too simple and not very detailed and the plastic is too hard. Here you see the final photos. Now see what my next project will be... Dennis Ps. Many thanks to Modlbldr to donate me the front wheels... Edited April 26, 2014 by Obivion
mrm Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Very nice! I've been wanting to build a real one for few years now, but my wife does not give the approval.
bobthehobbyguy Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Love it. The whitewalls and the body color are great.
Modlbldr Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Dennis- It turned out great. The body color with the black wheels is perfect. I love everything about it. Glad I could help to get it finished. If you ever need anything else, don't hesitate to ask. Later-
slusher Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Great looking model. You did an awesome job building it...
