W-409 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Looks like this kit has some very interesting parts that are perfect for kitbashing! What I like is the roll bar, which has that crossbar so that seat belts can be installed there. The headers look good, too and seats are perfect for many different builds, too. Decal sheet looks nice as well, but those decals that try to represent burnt rubber on rear quarter panels don't look very realistic... I'll prefer real rubber. Anyway with all of the complaints this kit is getting, I'll surely buy a few. I will even build a couple of these.
Rob Hall Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 One thing I don't see in the pics--the chassis isn't tubbed? Stock?
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 As someone who deals with the general public on a daily basis, I can tell you one reason not to call the new kit a 2 n 1 would be to avoid confusion with the existing 2 n 1 kit. And had they used the Jairus Watson box art for a "2 n 1" version, then the question would be whether there are 2 drag versions, or a drag and stock... I can see where it would lead. My experience is that the "kitchen table" crowd is somewhat confused by multiple options, and often feels they left something out or missed something in the instructions when there are pieces left over. I've even had people call me - "I followed the directions and there are pieces left over!..." People wouldn't be "confused" with leftover parts if they would have made it obvious on the box that the kit does, in fact, include extra parts! Why couldn't they have put a little "burst" on the box that says "Kit includes parts to build either a drag or stock version" or "Kit can be built two different ways–Drag or stock" or something like that?

Why couldn't they have put a little "burst" on the box that says "Kit includes parts to build either a drag or stock version" or "Kit can be built two different ways–Drag or stock" or something like that? That's assuming people actually read the box art. It is odd they don't call it out as a 2n1, with a picture of the stock version on an end or side panel... What about the S&M Cuda...is it a 2n1 or are not all of the stock parts included?
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 It is odd they don't call it out as a 2n1, with a picture of the stock version on an end or side panel... Exactly! That's a selling point! You're getting enough extra parts to build the thing one of two different ways. Why they don't point that out on the box is senseless. Like I said earlier, making it obvious that the kit contains extra "goodies" might actually sell a few more units than otherwise... and in any case, it certainly won't hurt sales. Very bad decision making by the manufacturer if you ask me.

No stock hood or stock rear springs and only 2 street tires on the S&M Cuda People wouldn't be "confused" with leftover parts if they would have made it obvious on the box that the kit does, in fact, include extra parts! Why couldn't they have put a little "burst" on the box that says "Kit includes parts to build either a drag or stock version" or "Kit can be built two different ways–Drag or stock" or something like that? 99.9% don't read the boxes so whether you put it on there or not it won't matter. "Do it have glue?" is a question I get quite often, even though "cement not included" is right there on the box. "What paint do it need?" is another, even though there's a chart on Revell boxes. Nobody reads this stuff in a retail setting, and online I can make the description say whatever I want. The ones savvy enough to actually read boxes are the ones who have most likely already read up on it online. If there wasn't already a stock kit I'm sure they would have labeled it as a "2 n 1" kit, but like I said they'd probably just be confusing things to have 2 concurrent "2 n 1" kits.

That's pretty sad..so they have to dumb it down with the assumption that the masses are too stupid to distinguish between two different 2n1 kits. Edited July 1, 2014 by Rob Hall
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 99.9% don't read the boxes... And that figure is based on what? I, for one, don't believe it for a second.
Brett Barrow Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 And that figure is based on what? I, for one, don't believe it for a second. Of course that's a bit of hyperbole, but I have 13 years experience working in a hobby shop.
Brett Barrow Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 That's pretty sad..so they have to dumb it down with the assumption that the masses are too stupid to distinguish between two different 2n1 kits. Imagine someone of average intelligence. Now realize that half the population is dumber than that.
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Brett... even the most die-hard "non box reader" would be hard pressed to miss this: And you're telling me that addition to the box would't be a good idea?

Now that would be a good idea. Just sticking it on the side panel in fine print wouldn't. You really should send that to Revell. Be sure to include several misspellings and grammatical errors in the email. That lets them know you mean bidness...
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Imagine someone of average intelligence. Now realize that half the population is dumber than that. You're mixing up average with median Here are 11 fictional home prices. $100,000 $101,000 $102,000 $103,000 $104,000 $105,000 $106,000 $107,000 $650,000 $1,000,000 $3,000,000 The median price of these 11 homes is $105,000. Five homes were lower priced and five homes were higher priced. The average price of these 11 homes is $498,000. That's what you get if you add up all those prices and divide by 11.

I know the difference. But "median intelligence" just doesn't have the same ring to it...
bad0210 Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 they need to put on the box that it comes with a chopped top.
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I know the difference. But "median intelligence" just doesn't have the same ring to it... No, I guess not... Be sure to include several misspellings and grammatical errors in the email. That lets them know you mean bidness...
Harry P. Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Now that would be a good idea. That's what I've been saying the whole time!
johnbuzzed Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 So I'll buy the LX kit, warts and all, and I am a Mopar guy. Heck, I'll even buy one or both versions of the 'Cuda, warts and all. I'm getting too old to sit around and wait for the perfect kit and I'm certainly not going to re-engineer each kit that I do have in my stash that might have a flaw or three. Maybe for a contest model, yeah. But for my shelves only? Nahhhh. And believe me, I can be just as picky as anyone else, but there comes a time in life when you realize that nothing, no one, no where is perfect ...
Luc Janssens Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 That's what I've been saying the whole time! That's a common problem with intelligent people, they have a hard time to get their message across. ;^)
Chuck Kourouklis Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) One thing I don't see in the pics--the chassis isn't tubbed? Stock? Hey, Rob - only posted pics of stuff changed or new from previous version. Chassis is still stock, no tubs. Sox & Martin 'Cuda is missing stock hoods and two stock tires at a minimum, far as I can reckon after a skim... (edit - as Brett posted above, re 'Cuda...) Edited July 1, 2014 by Chuck Kourouklis
Danno Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) they need to put on the box that it comes with a chopped top. "Comes with pre-chopped top. But it looks okay to people of median intelligence." Edited July 1, 2014 by Danno
Danno Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Oh! A wise guy! Nyuk nyuk nyuk... I'm not a big wise guy, or a little wise guy. Just median-wise. Whooop whoop whoop.
Dave Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 What was this thread about? I got lost with all the math and concerns about things I've already forgotten...............
