Bluemiles22 Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Thanks guys! Russ I don't really have a lot of info on dirt modeler as this was the first product I've ever used from them. But from what I did get I can say the detail on the parts is great. Pretty sure there's a link to the website in the aftermarket directory. The auto air has a bit of a learning curve to it, but I think with a little bit of practice you can get a great result. I think I stripped the paint off this one three times before I got it looking decent. I did however have trouble wet sanding before I put clear coat on which I wasn't too crazy about.
Bluemiles22 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Just a quick update, I got the engine in the chassis after a little bit of a fight. I had to take some material off of the frame rails and the insides of the upper A arms and also bend the exhaust manifolds in with some heat. Then I had to take some material off of the inner fender wells to clear the engine. Nothing too extreme so far but still a little bit of a pain. The hood finally got clear coat on it which should be polished out today. Exhaust was added but I broke off the tail pipes on accident so those have to get fixed. I added some coil over shocks from vcg resin on the back, which may have to get moved in I'm not too sure yet. Just have to add a drive shaft and a few other things and then final assembly. Thanks for looking. Edited May 14, 2014 by Bluemiles22
fitforbattle Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Simply amazing. Great work. Now I want to rebuild my El Camino. Maybe... Blue? Edited May 14, 2014 by fitforbattle
Bluemiles22 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Thank you guys, most of my builds wind being painted some kind of blue. I should probably try to switch it up next time lol.
slusher Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Amazing work, that blue is super nice! I agree with Jonathan Amazing work and color..
Tom Geiger Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Thank you guys, most of my builds wind being painted some kind of blue. I should probably try to switch it up next time lol. Left on my own, all my models would be the same color. Every time I start a project, I see it in medium metallic blue, or lately that awesome orange metallic. So I literally toss out the spray can when I finish a model so that I don't use the very same color again.

Yup it's just something about blue, I have plenty of other colored paint too but I always come back to the blue. Next couple of builds I'm gonna force myself to do something different, I have not one green build so I think it's about time for one lol.
shucky Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Rich, your doing a great job on this so far! Tuned in for more progress.
Tom Geiger Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Yup it's just something about blue, Pull up a chair, it's charming story time! Way back in the last century, I had a 1960 Buick Electra with classic car insurance on it. I got a cancellation notice saying that I had broken the rules because I was using the car as my daily driver. That was funny because the car was buried in my garage with stuff piled on top of it. The company said it had the right to investigate me by any means they had available to them. So I called. They told me in a phone interview with Mrs. xx xx (my next door neighbor) she identified that I drove "the blue car" to work every day. I had to laugh out loud because I looked out my window and there was... my blue 1991 Nissan Stanza (my wife's daily driver), my blue 1973 Plymouth Scamp (my daily driver), my blue 1973 Barracuda, my blue 1978 Dodge Sportsman van.. and of course my blue 1960 Buick which was buried in the garage. So I took a photo of my fleet, a photo of my garage door open with the Buick buried in stuff, and sent it all off to the insurance company demanding that they reinstate my insurance immediately AND find a more reliable interviewer to investigate people. I got a new card in the mail almost immediately! And the funny part... it was the first time I realized that all our cars were blue!
Bluemiles22 Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Rich, your doing a great job on this so far! Tuned in for more progress. Thanks mike! Got my order today, super nice stuff!
Bluemiles22 Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Tom that's a good one lol. Yea I'm definitely gonna have to change it up a little next time. However hard it may be lol.
squirrel886 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Oh my........those wheels and the color, very nice!
Bluemiles22 Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Thanks guys! I decided to go with mikes wheels and tires instead of the set from pegasus, they looked a little too small and I didn't like the way the car sat. The wheel in the picture was shot with testors gun metal metalizer, still not sure if I wanna go with that color or maybe chrome. Maybe candy blue. Uh oh.... The blue temptation is creeping back in my head lol.
shucky Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Rich, they look killer in gun metal ... just sayin' Great work going on here.
Bluemiles22 Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Rich, they look killer in gun metal ... just sayin' Great work going on here. Thanks mike! The wheels are prepped and ready for paint so I should have those done shortly. I may have to modify the inner fenders on the front to get them to tuck up in the body a little more, the nose looks like it sits just a tad too high right now. I started to put together the grill and headlights, and also got started on adding hood pins. Just have to figure out where to put the straight pins and I'm set. These will actually be functioning hood pins so hopefully everything lines up the right way. Also have a tiny chip in the paint which has to be touched up, there's no way I'm stripping the paint off the hood again this time lol.
slusher Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 You can really notice the hood pins on the blue paint...
TFchronos Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Love them rims, I just noticed the ghost strips too, that's awesome!
GLMFAA1 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Nice job on the model, I grew up working on my Mom's Chevelle, just wish I noticed this sooner, the door arm rests are chrome with panel color pads. It was just a lady's go to church car, Aztec bronze, black interior, 283 w/power slush greg
