I like them. I will admit there are better burgers such as Culvers and In and Out but when I was a young lad White Castle was the only place around where I was at 1 am in the morning. They have the frozen ones in the grocery store and I get them once in awhile but if you don't care for the fresh ones you would hate the frozen ones.

Culvers is great. Lucky to live in Wisconsin. I guess there are a few in Texas. Culvers has great fries, not those rock hard tongue skewers you get at McDs. It is not a coincidence that White Castle is decorated in white porcelain. The initials are dead give away on the quality of the food there. WC=Water Closet=White Castle. @Cobraman...we have George Webb's for 1 AM food, still better than WC.

Don't know how far the chain "Five Guys" has grown but I'm addicted. It's a burger chain in the NJ/PA area that has great fresh hand formed burgers and fresh cut fries. I get the Five Guys bacon cheeseburger. Huge, fresh, made to order and sloppy!

All the burger toppings are free. The standard burger is a huge double patty thing... you need to order a Junior for a single! It's counter service, and when they bag your order, they put your burger in the bottom, then fill a large cup with fries... then they fill the rest of the sack up with fries! Can't beat them!

Culvers are good...we have those here in AZ also. Along w/ Five Guys, In and Out and Whataburger. One West Coast chain we have here that I like is Habit Burger..simple and tasty.

There's a 5 Guys in Ocala but I've never been. I've heard they're very expensive.

I get the big bacon cheeseburger, fries and a coke and it's maybe $10. Normal for decent fast food.

Another interesting chain is Cheeburger, Cheeburger! It started on Sanibel Island, Florida and is more a 50s sit down restaurant with decent burgers, again with most the toppings free, and they have a huge selection of milkshake flavors as well.

My old VP and friend from my old company ditched the corporate world and bought the franchise for the Philly Mainline region. He has one restaurant up so far and seems to be doing well. Bummer for me because I was hoping he'd get another VP job where I could follow him again!

Habit Burger ? That's a new one on me. Looked it up and there is one not too far from me on Mcdowell. I think I may have to blow my diet one day and take a ride.

Five Guys burgers are all right, but I haven't been there in awhile. I have to watch my diet and SLOW down on the fries and such. I am able to eat just about anything, but only in moderation. Last year at this time I was in a feeding frenzy and paid for it dearly. My doctor said, nothing was wrong, but that I needed to go on a "bland diet." That didn't last too long, but now I'm careful about how much junk I eat.

MrsG grew up around Grand and Pulaski. She waitressed at the diner across from Jimmy's Hotdog stand. She remembers a lot even though she's been in Vegas 27 years.

Back in the very early 60's I bought many a dog at Jimmy's Hot Dog stand as my good buddy lived just down the street from there. I lived a mile or two northwest of Jimmy's but hung around that area quite a bit. don't forget Bill's(?) Hobby Shop on North Ave. & Harding Ave. They used to have model car contests there in the early 60's. I know that I've mentioned it before, but I am a "Chicago native." By the way, Jimmy's was not too far from Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge either as I remember.

Bill's hobby shop was my hangout when I was a kid. But it wasn't on North Avenue, it was on Fullerton.

Quite a different neighborhood today.

I was "out & about" with my better half this mornin' and of course we had to stop at Portillo's for lunch. I didn't want to, but I just couldn't resist it. Luckily we got there early before the "prime time" lunch crowd got there.

Portillo's? You just made my hate list, Nick. I have to be in Madison, WI in May, I wonder if there's a Portillo's up that way? I'll have to check.

No Protillo's that far north Jim, you'll have to settle for The Brat Stop......

I remember going to the Brat Stop and seeing bands in my younger years! Good food and lots of beer!

Jim- order your Portillo's online!
