2002p51 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Started working on this today: It's called a "skeeter", sort of a poor mans super modified. And in fact that's what I'm basing the chassis on, the old Monogram Don Edmunds Super Modified. I got the resin body years ago. Like I said, the chassis is mostly from the old Monogram kit. I moved the roll cage rearward a little bit and made the front and rear bumpers, and side nerf bars from Evergreen .080" rod. The wing is also made from scratch using Evergreen .010" sheet. Instead of the kit fuel injection I think this engine will have triple carburetors to more fit the theme of lower budget racer. What do y'all think?
cobraman Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Nice start. I like it. This should be very cool.
VW93 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Nice. I'd go with the tri power setup also for the low buck look.
DumpyDan Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I like the looks of this, keep the pic's coming.
rustybill1960 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I like it! More please! I will be following this. It is something i have yet to build Thank You for sharing Later Russ
slusher Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Drew, your work is awesome. This is a cool build already...
DrKerry Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Now this I like!!!! I saw the "Skeeter" and didn't think anything of it. I figured today I'll have a looksie. Glad I did. Totally kool.
Dale W. Verts Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Anything that turns right to go left is way cool. Dale
2002p51 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Anything that turns right to go left is way cool. Dale Don't mean to disappoint you , Dale, but this one will have pavement tires!
Dale W. Verts Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Oops. If he turns right he's in TROUBLE. Still really cool. Dale
2002p51 Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Got some more work done over the last two days. I've decided not to wire the engine. It's set back so far that the body covers the back of it and plug wires would hardly show and this is a just for fun project anyway. I did add a brake and gas pedal inside which was also pretty much a waste of time 'cause you can't see much in there once the body is on. I made the hood from some .010" Evergreen sheet! How am I doin'?
lanesteele240 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Man, u dont mess around. Progress is swift.
James2 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 One of my favorite race subjects. Looks real good so far...
DrKerry Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 How ya doing??? Um, totally awesome!!!! Looks great!!!
2002p51 Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Man, u dont mess around. Progress is swift. Well, things have just slowed down. Had a minor set back. Wheels modified and adapted to fit, were painted, detailed, mounted on tires, all done. Mounting them on the car, the center broke out of one. If the fix doesn't hold I'll to start all over again with another wheel. Poop!
2002p51 Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 I think I got away with it. The "fix" just might hold. How come those side nerf bars weren't that close to the tire during mock-up?
rustybill1960 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Those headers are killer looking! Great little build Thank You for sharing later Russ
