First off, its not the kit you were expecting. Its the A64B kit with a dump body added. Ive been wanting to do this with a dump trailer kit for years. This was another built up kit. It looked good when I bought it, but when I recieved it the paint wasnt as nice as I though. So I decided to rust it up. I rebuilt the chassis, moved the axles back a little, added a resin stack from AITM, painted the chassis red, and added the dump body. I built the tag-a-long with what was left of the trailer. I applied heat and bent and dented up the bodies and glued some sand to them to simulate heavy rust.Thats pretty much it!

That weathering job is sick, woooow. I have two of the trailers waiting to do something similar, you might have just moved them up the ladder. awesome

Thanks for the inspiration.

cheers Ewan

Glad I could help. This was the first time I attempted to pull this off. To give a brief rundown, the bodies were heated(with my heat gun on low), then poked with a flathead screwdriver, primered, then painted white. I spread some glue in the areas that I wanted heavy rust, and spread sand in to the glue. Rustoleum makes two shades of rusty metal primer, that looks just like rusty metal. Coincidence? Using the darker primer on the sand then shading with the light primer on the tips of the sand. Then I misted the whole body with tan. I used the same primer thinned down to rust parts of the truck.I used thinned black for oil leaks on the Hyd cylinders, wheel hubs, and fuel tanks.Hope that helps.

So cool, what a great idea and you were able to make the pup as well. It definitely looks like it has hauled some loads. Thanks for all the tips !

Now that I have seen it - it seems like that Pete is quite the "photo bomber" ;)

I don't know if it's just me, but I love how a dump truck looks with some well done weathering. Tells a more compelling story when you look at the finished project. Very cool combo!

Now pardon me but I must ask- what do you have in mind for that IH Transtar COE I glimpsed in the top two photos? :)

Thats just the face of thebox tacked to the wall of my display area. I do have several of those kits, but no real plans yet.I would like to turn one into the F4090 Super Transtar. Edited by Superpeterbilt
