Here are a couple of tilt-cab Fords I've been messing with lately.

This one is based on the Pepsi van kit- I traded the body, lift gate, and some other stuff for the Italeri Effer crane. I'll be adding a flat bed (and the frame crossmembers not shown in the pic) later on. The wheels and tires are also from Italeri- they came from an Iveco, and were mated to the AMT axles with wheel adapters from an MRC muscle car hop-up set.

This one is also based on the Pepsi van kit, but I used some spare tractor frame rails (left over from the old RC2-era stake bed reissue), and I used a CAT 3208 engine from the AMT Ford L-Series, and the Goodyear military type tires from an Ertl Paystar 5000 mixer. I raised the cab to clear the engine, and the front bumper and grille will be raised to match. I was going for more of a home-brewed diesel swap kind of 'feel', rather than trying to depict a factory installation.

Both trucks will be weathered, and I'm planning on adding some rust and minor collision damage to the tractor.

Crane is 99% complete now- does need some detail painting but that's about it.

I dipped into another one of those weird and wonderful Italeri parts packs for the fuel tank and tool box on the tractor- both were reconfigured slightly for the C-Series. The deck plate is from the same Louisville that coughed up its CAT, and I used an external oil filter from an AMT Diamond Reo.

Started on the bodywork for the tractor. I'm going for a late '70's/early '80's look (hence removal of the gear and lightning bolt medallion), but the tires make it look even older for some reason. Meh... still going to go with it.

Hi, I don't post a lot, but I definitely am an avid onlooker, anyways, I just finished (well sort of) the 3208 swap in a c series. It was kind of irritating but well worth it. if I get a chance tomorrow I will post some pics in the under glass section. beware of the front bumper, I don't know if you've done the c series before or not, but I couldn't get the cab to tilt all the way forward for anything, anyways, looking good so far and best of luck!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, Sam- I've built a few of these, and I've had that some problem on a few of them. Sometimes they'll bind so badly you almost can't tilt the cab, and other times there's no problem at all. I think the bumper/grille mounts a bit too close to the cab, and that's what seems to cause the problem, at least on the ones I've built.

Anyone ever open up the doors on one of these and hinge them???....how much trouble is it? Cool project.

I haven't, but I do have a spare cab, plenty of sheet styrene, and a 1:1 '59 C-900 out back with all the reference material I need, and I would like to try that. Maybe one of these days...

In the meantime, I just want to make a bit more progress on these two for now.

Me, too, but I don't have the guts to fully cut through the door gaps. -_- I would love to see detailed pics of the door jambs, inner wheel arches, door panels. etc, though, whenever you have a chance to take more pics. ^_^

Uh-oh... Danno's here. Better not paint the tractor highway department orange like I'd originally planned.:P

Relax, Chuck! Highway Orange is nothing like Hillbilly Orange. I'm okay with it. :P;)

Whats the difference???

One is "Highway Orange" and the other is "Hillbilly Orange."

If it's "Highway Orange" it's grown up and has a job. If it's "Hillbilly Orange," it doesn't. :P

If it's "Highway Orange" it isn't "Hillbilly Orange."

If it's "Hillbilly Orange" it isn't "Highway Orange."

Just like if it's if something is "Gull Gray" it isn't "Charcoal Gray."

Regarding some earlier comments...

Sold my "reference material" last week, but since there are six of these things in the area (seven if you count the one that's been out and about painting new white lines on the road), and two of those are owned by a relative, more pics should be forthcoming. :D

Hendrix Manufacturing sells the sleeper cab for this kit.

A chopped and slammed C-Series model is on my to-do list, just a matter of when.

Highway Orange can become Hillbilly Orange once the vehicle leaves the Highway Department and enters the hands of a hillbilly. But I'm holding off on the big numbers on the doors and flag on the roof. :P
