Craig Irwin Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 and just maybe these birds are a "Holy Grail" for Pontiac enthusiasts. Yes, one mans floor is another mans ceiling.
Danno Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 The Camaro was FAR from rushed, but the truth is that the Mustang was a response to the Chevy Corvair Monza. And that's the truth, too!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I guess they are going to need lots of work and money put in.
Bill J Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 When Gas Monkey painted a Ferrari F40 black, added custom wheels and jacked with the engine, they totally lost me. They have a keen knack for taking a decent classic and turning it into some sort of cheesy "custom" that no one in my neighborhood would want to be seen driving. I think they should rat rod the next Duesenberg that they find, maybe do some flames on a matte black paint job. That's likely what they'll do to the Firebirds too.
crazyjim Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Hey guys - it's a stupid reality show - not the real world.
Jon Haigwood Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I was pondering the idea of building a 1962 Mustang concept. With it being much smaller than the other Mustangs not sure I want to start with a 289 Cobra frame and make it a mid engine or just build a tube frame from scratch.

IMO the F40 was so far gone and needed so much work,,, trying to put it back to factory stock would have been a waste of time. I agreed with the build, build it bad to the bone and enjoy it . I kinda like the show but don't necassarily agree with every build they do or how they do it. I'm not the one paying the bill either
om617 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I guess they are going to need lots of work and money put in. I read somewhere they spend $200000 on the restoration.
Lownslow Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 They were also developing the concept but they really got caught with their pants down when Lee Iacocca pushed the Mustang through faster. GM didn't even know Ford had it in development, so they were taking their sweet time (as was often the case) and were in no hurry. All of a sudden, the Mustang was being introduced while GM was still screwing around with all their committees and such. I wonder if they did the same thing with the cobalt and the kick stop ignition to combat the VW start/stop system
Joe Handley Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I wonder if they did the same thing with the cobalt and the kick stop ignition to combat the VW start/stop system GM should have put a lawyer or who ever handles the legal stuff in the owner's manual on telling people not to hang 20lbs of stuff on their keychains. Dad saw that as an issue 60 years ago from multiple vehicles when the owners had too many keys of other nonsense on their chains.
ZTony8 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm not 100% up on my early F body history so I don't know if Firebirds were also made in Van Nuys,California right from the start of 1967 model year production. If so, there were TWO body #1 cars, one from each plant. The two cars on the show were made in Lordstown,Ohio.
