jbwelda Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) Build thread here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65076&st=0&p=794847 These pics taken out in the sunlight really do pretty much capture the shade of red the car is. Couple things I could attend to still: have some tie downs for the front of the bonnet/hood I might want to add. Bonnet actually fits well its just a bit crooked in these pics. Taillights are just held on with white glue at the moment because I may make yet another pair and this time make them about one half the thickness of these...otherwise I think they look pretty good. you can see the ugly body repair under the left side of the windshield caused by grinding up under there to fit the dashboard. oh well I am calling it a rust repair. Comments and questions always welcome! thanks for looking! jb Edited April 22, 2014 by jbwelda
Belugawrx Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Very Nice!! Love the tail lights oval'ed Looks great out in the sun Cheers
afx Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I followed your build thread William. It turned out nice.
Prince Ital Mike Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Never seen this body before... Very nicely done!!!
Modelmartin Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Congrats on making it through all your trials and tribulations. Perseverence got you a very nice result. The paint and chrome are very nicely done and the ride height is perfect. Now we know that there are two of these that have been finished! Any one else out there have this conversion?
Skip Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 jb, That came out great. Ride height isn't too bad either. Didn't notice it on your on the workbench photos but the tires look a little tall for 10 inchers, is the rim size taller than 10 inches? Must just be the pictures. Engine bay is spot on, I've poked my head around many a Mini engine bay. (Literally too, that hook-like catch that they added to keep the bonnet from flying up at speed I think Mark II or III and later gets the back of the head almost every time!)
jbwelda Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 thanks for all your comments folks. to address a couple questions: the tyres came with the Tamiya race car kit so perhaps they are a bit larger...they are/were a very loose fit on the wheels but the wheels came with the conversion kit so I assumed maybe they were a bit small...but now that you mention it maybe the tyres are big. I think they look pretty appropriate for the car. my one main regret about the car is keeping that purple undercarriage and engine compartment. just looks goofy. wish I had picked a more neutral color like an olive drab or light green or something, but its ok as it is I guess. I am going to redo the taillamps, I cut some narrower bezels last night now I am going to polish and fill them and apply some bmf and see if they look better than the current attempt. thanks again for looking and any other comments suggestions jeers or heckling, bring em on! jb
om617 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Unusual car and very nicely done. The fog lights looks awsome.
bbowser Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Great model! So much more appealing than today's motorized eggs on the highway
