donb Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Working on cars I owned theme. I realize that many of the cars I had are not in kit form but those that are I will build. Probably take a few years, or more, but that's OK. This is the first car I owned in 1972. Bought it for $100.00 from a mechanic who flipped cars (about what I got into this car!). For a 16 year old it was a monster of a car. Fully equipped for the time and a huge gas guzzler. 394 Rocket Engine. Oh…and gas was around 30 cents a gallon. Minimum hourly wage……$1.85 an hour working at a gas station on the NY State Thruway. Still had fun though! Build is the best I can remember and Google references. Onto the car – Modelhaus resin kit, was shocked they had it! Paint is 1962 GM Curius Blue from Automotive Touchup and the center section is Dupli-Color Silver. About 4 or 5 coats of clear and rubbed out. Thanks for looking!
disabled modeler Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 NICE!.... We had one of those in our family years ago.
Rob Hall Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Sweet...when I was in grad school in the '90s, I had a buddy that had a white '62 Olds 4dr ht...it was a very rusty NE Ohio car.
realgone58 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Very nice model of a beautiful car! I have the '61 kit, still searching for the harder to find '62. I may go with the MH resin too.
Pete J. Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 My folks had a 64 Dynamic 88 convertible, same color of blue. I had a school permit when they got it. A school permit allowed kids who live over 5 miles from town to drive to and from school and school events when they were 13 years old. I was a very popular kid during the summer. Great looking car. You brought back some great memories! Thanks!
bbowser Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Sweet, Rocket 88! Great model and backstory as well.
donb Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for all the kind words folks. I do appreciate it very much and thanks for looking!
rmvw guy Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I love the theme, "Cars I owned". These builds are the most fun to me and bring back great memories. You did a nice job on the model, I love it. My count is now up to 10 on cars I owned and built in 1/25 scale. My favorite is my first car owned. I am sure you have plenty of great stories you could share of when you owned this car.
Ron Hamilton Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 That one brings back memories. Dad had a '62 Starfire Convertible back in the day.
