cobraman Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 You may remember the model I built of a 66 Biscayne as a replica of a buddys current "fun" car. He really liked it so I attempted to build a replica of his very first car from over 40 years ago. Neither of us remember all the details so I tried as best I could with what we knew. I used the Foose 64 Impala hardtop kit. I removed the roof and found a convertible down top in the parts box. Built pretty much stock even using the custom wheels which I know are not correct. The interior is flocked and has some Chevy floor mats. I put an 8 track tape in the player. For you younger folks that may not know what an 8 track is ask your pops........... or grand fathers. : ) The mirror has not been added as the one on the 66 I built and sent was broken in transit. He will have to install it when it arrives in Illinois. The for sale sign is a replica for one her purchased the car. Yes, he bought a 64 Impala SS convertible for 250.00 ! And it was in great shape. Keep in mind it was well over 40 years ago.
Speedfreak Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) That is very cool Ray, and I believe the part about it being purchased for $250.00, wow! Since I'm a musician, I'm drawn to the guitar, as my focal point, very cool! Impala's 'used' to be such cool cars. Edited June 15, 2014 by Speedfreak
TFchronos Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Very nice work, as guitarist myself I really like what's in the back seat too.
cobraman Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Thanks guys. I tossed the guitar in the back as I recalled that during that time he had this car he was taking lessons.
philo426 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Where did you find that scale Gretsch with the Bigsby?
tbill Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Ray, that looks great, I am sure he is going to love it.
cobraman Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Thanks guys. The guitar is from the Rat Roaster kit.
1 bad55 stan Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Looks real nice, your friend will be rapt with this..
cobraman Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Very nice, only snafu, the seats are a bit too shiny. Would you believe the seats in the real car were this shiny ? No ? Oh well, I must agree and should have shot them with some satin clear. I was rushing and made more than one error on this build. I did one thing I learned a long time ago not to do but did it anyway. That being I painted the trunk ( it is separate piece ) and hood at a different time than the body. Coats of paint differ and the color is off on those pieces. Still trying to build the perfect model. Ain't never going to happen. : )
Maxicoop Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 awesome build, and I too love the guitar in the back seat ............ also love the color oh and perfect is in the eye of the beholder ...... we all have our little imperfections.......and that's ok !!!! LOL
cobraman Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Thanks Ron. I know we are our own worst critics. Well, except for Harry ! : ) Just a joke !
Ramfins59 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Nice job Ray, and don't worry...... none of us will ever build the perfect model.
cobraman Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Perhaps not Rich but some of the guys here sure come awful close.
