unclescott58 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 One of the middle schools I work at is going to be displaying and using my 4D Vision model of a Saturn V as a teaching tool. (If you wish to see the model for yourself, you can see it under "all the rest".) Scott
Agent G Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I've known for a week now but didn't want to jinx myself. As of today, it is official, I am a "Senior Agent" read sergeant, again. Having retired as a sergeant, I decided it was ok to just be a worker bee in this job. They left me alone to do what I do best and I pretty much ran my own show on the day shift. I broke down and took the promotional exam last month. I felt that if I didn't take the test I didn't have the right to "B" about who did get promoted. Sure enough, one of my best friends and I got the call. He got "made" ( police lingo sometimes copies mob speak ) two weeks ago, I was made today. Back to the nightwatch Saturday night! G

Tom Geiger Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 My 200 rolled up to this on my way home from work tonight! You'd need another zero for a real brag! How do you like the 200? I notice that since the new Italian inspired model, the local dealer wants to give these away, like 5 grand off list. We may be looking for a new car so it's starting to be enticing!
Joe Handley Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 You'd need another zero for a real brag! How do you like the 200? I notice that since the new Italian inspired model, the local dealer wants to give these away, like 5 grand off list. We may be looking for a new car so it's starting to be enticing! It's been dead solid, just have had regular maintenence and a occasional software updates for the various computers done to it so far. I try not to drive it during the winter (283hp and FWD does not inspire confidence in the snow for me like my Jeep's 4wd does), and since the Pentastar is flex fuel and I have fairly easy access to usually well priced E85, that's mostly what it's been fed and it does like the stuff......alot! I do wish they had used better tires with the 18" rims, that I could turn off the stability control (it can get in the way during.......spirited......driving ), and that I had found one with Bluetooth, since Illinois is now a hands free state and it would take some work and money to put the hands free stuff into my car.
Joe Handley Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Oh, and with the Pentastar equipped cars, they can accellerate like muscle cars and will light them up from a dead stop as well as a slow roll in first gear and the drive by wire can be a bit....hair triggerish, there was a guy on YouTube whining on one of the videos for these cars about how they're overpowered by approx. 40-50hp, since he got a ticket for wreckless driving after accidentally lighting'em up in a rental car he had....... Then there is torque steer, if you've ever driven their 80's turbo cars, you should be ok....but you've been warned, it is there and will bite.
High octane Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I'm pleased that my 20 year old Toro runs like a top, and I got my lawn cut today as well as my neighbors. I'm also likin' my new leaf/vac blower too.
Joe Handley Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Mom is back in the hospital again, as soon as I told one of my new bosses what's going on, she asked if I needed to split and then said if something came up before the end of my shift, to go ahead and take off for the Hospital!
Tom Geiger Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Getting a new roof on the house tomorrow. My roof, siding and trim got damaged in the hail storm this spring. Insurance company saw fit to approve repairs and cut me a check. Per normal process, it was cut to me, my wife, and the mortgage company. I went to a bank branch of that company today and they signed a release on the check so I could deposit it to pay the contractor. So new roof it is!
Tom Geiger Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Will you be getting new siding as well? Yes. We settled on a price for that today as the roof was going on. Taking off the aluminum siding and putting on new vinyl (which wouldn't have dented!). Here's a question for anyone in the business... high end house built in 1994 by a nationally known builder. They used aluminum siding. I renovated my old house in 1987 and used vinyl siding. I thought aluminum was obsolete by then. Why would this builder still be installing it in 1994? I'm just glad to be getting rid of it.
High octane Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 If it was a so called "high end" house, they would have used the vinyl siding or even brick. They probably used the aluminum siding because they had it left over from another job, and wanted to get rid of it.

They probably used the aluminum siding because they had it left over from another job, and wanted to get rid of it. The front is all brick. The house was built by Toll Brothers, a huge Wall Street listed company. They wouldn't have siding left over from their last house. They build 100s at a time.
High octane Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 If they built 100's at a time, they were "tract homes" and cheaply made to be affordable to the masses. By buying building materials in bulk, they could have easily had some siding left over, only to use it on the next house. A lot of "tract homes" had brick fronts.

That ain't no tract home. There was a vinyl covered aluminum back in the 90's that was quite popular, however, when the price of metal went sky high crazy it didn't sell very well.
my80malibu Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Tonight while out at dinner with my Wife, My son called in a Panic. Saying he was involved in an Accident. We rushed to the scene which was near our house, arriving shortly before any Police, We found him out by his car looking very Down. I was so Happy That nothing Happened to Him, the other driver a young 18 year old girl sustained a knee injury, but refused any treatment, two witnesses at the scene gave statements to the Police when they arrived. Tomorrow I will deal with the insurance. I am just Happy No one was injured seriously.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I don't think vinyl is very high-end. What pleased me today? I sold my GameCube.
