drgplstc Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hey guys I just picked up the 1/12 '67 Corvette 427 Coupe. I was hoping I could get some pictures of some that are complete. Also any tips that would help with the build. I searched the forum but didn't come up with much of anything
deuces wild Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Type in L-88 427 vette in searh.. You should find something..
sjordan2 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Contact forum member Hawk312 (David Eicherly). He's built several stunning versions, including magazine cover story models. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=13157
drgplstc Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 do any of you guys know where I can find 1/12 scale detail stuff? Valve Covers, Photo Etched parts and the like? I've only been able to find one photo etched set online.
Hawk312 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hi Todd, Yes, I have built more than a couple of these. I`ll post some pictures below. The kit goes together pretty well with no surprises and builds up really nicely. I usually skip the photo-etch set for it, as I think some of the kit`s chrome plated parts are more accurate (the gas cap in particular), though the 427 badges are closer to the correct thickness on the PE parts. Let me know if you have any questions.
Jordan White Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 If you're looking for aftermarket, check out TDR Innovations. He sells 3D printed parts for various engines and scales, though there may be some adjustments necessary to get them to fit on the kit parts (parts are technically designed for his own blocks that he sells, so they are slightly different than the kit blocks). It may be worth getting the valve covers from him at least, since the kit valve covers all have the wrong bolt pattern (8 bolts rather than the correct 7).
drgplstc Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 Hawk thanks for posting the pics. Hope mine comes out half as nice. I would like to see a couple pictures of the chassis and a few more of the engine if you don't mind. This is the first big scale model since I was a little kid, I'm not trying to go crazy on it just adding a few details here and there. Did you use the kit tires with the rallye wheels from the Camaro? I am not impressed with the fitment of the grille at all that is why I ask about the photo etched parts. Also I would like some different valve covers (I looked at the TDR stuff but it looked as if on the valve covers you had to buy all of them not just one set) Anyone know how i can get in touch with TDR by Phone or Email? thanks again for the pointers
Jordan White Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Here's the link for the individual valve cover sets: https://sites.google.com/site/tdrhtmllearn/home/engine-shop/chevy-engine-selection/bbc-valve-covers/individual-bbc-valve-covers I believe the owner is a member here, so perhaps check the resin section.
drgplstc Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) Thank you Jordan! I did not find that page in my searching.... Hawk I also ordered a back issue for the mag you have in your sig. Edited August 26, 2014 by drgplstc
Hawk312 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Thank you Jordan! I did not find that page in my searching.... Hawk I also ordered a back issue for the mag you have in your sig. Cool. In it, I give details on how I do the finish on my cars. I really like what Harry did on the cover, showing the contrast between my dealer showroom `vette and Dr. Cranky`s post apocalyptic wrecker.
Harry P. Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I really like what Harry did on the cover, showing the contrast between my dealer showroom `vette and Dr. Cranky`s post apocalyptic wrecker. Can you say "contrast?"
clovis Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Wow, those Vettes are simply stunning! After seeing those, I am thinking about quitting the model hobby altogether. Even if I actively build every day, and seriously challenge myself along the way, I doubt that I'll ever be able to build one half that good.
sjordan2 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) For pretty good detail reference (convertible version), check this: http://fantasyjunction.com/cars/472-Chevrolet-Corvette%20Stingray%20Roadster-427C.I.%20V8 http://fantasyjunction.com/cars/1043-Chevrolet-Corvette%20Convertible-427/400hp%20V8 Edited August 27, 2014 by sjordan2
John E. Bowers Jr. Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 A build up of the Monogram kit, although not quite as nice as Hawks. [url=http://s25.photobucket.com/user/Likittysplit/media/Models2008028.jpg.html][/u
drgplstc Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 just a quick update. I have not had a lot of time to work on this model much with work and expecting my first kid soon. But I went around the doors, headlight with the back of an #11 blade and sanded most all of the bad spots that I could see and got a good coat of primer on it. I'll try to get a few pictures this weekend while I got some time to work on it.
skymnky721 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Heres a few pics of the chassis on mine,,this was a resto done this year,,after first building it in the late 90's

Practice,,Practice,,Practice,,you can do anything you put your mind to.
drgplstc Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 OK guys, I had my first son so I hadn't been able to do much. I have gotten the body in its 2nd coat of primer and looking forward to getting some color on this bad boy in the next day or two.
Hawk312 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Looks good! Congrats on the birth of your son. But your last post was on the 4th, just 25 days ago. You`ve had time to build again already?
