I will give it to you. It was Hamilton, Joe, Frank and Reynolds.

Well I did better than I thought! '71 was a weird year for me. I "Dodged" the Draft by Joining the Army

While you were off in France we were stranded in the British Isles
Left to fall apart amongst your passports and your files
We never asked for miracles
But they were our concern.
Did you really think we'd sit it out and wait for your return

It seems like yesterday you and I first loved this way

But now, I know how love can grow with each and every day

As we lay at midnight's hour and feel love's hidden power

So strong and bold as life unfolds a mystery to me

I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on

The radio is blastin', someone's knockin' at the door

I'm lookin' at my girlfriend - she's passed out on the floor

I seen so many things I ain't never seen before

Don't know what it is - I don't wanna see no more

Mama Told Me Not to Come--Three Dog Night. Didn't Randy Newman write it? (Sure sounds like one of his lyrics.) If he didn't, Paul Williams prolly did.

All I did was talk about you

hear your name and I'd start to cry

there's just no getting over you

Wasn't there two "talks" or was it "Talk & Talk about you" in that first line? Had to check my Ipod for the group... But my earbuds are MIA so I couldn't play it to hear.

(My) Little Red Book - Love

I think it's a one hit wonder.

Yep, Newman wrote it and did the first version of it on the "12 Songs" LP.

I volunteered for the Army on my birthday

They draft the white trash first, 'round here anyway.

I done two tours of duty in Vietnam

And I came home with a brand new plan

Steve Earle - Copperhead Road

In the beginning, I believed every word that you said,
Now that you're gone my world is in shreds.
Oh, you loved me and left me,
You took all the things that I needed so bad,
I'm standing here wondering where is the love that I had?

Always liked this song. lots of truth to it...

There goes my old girlfriend, there's another diamond ring
And, uh, all those late night promises I guess they don't mean a thing
So baby, what's the story? Did you find another man?
Is it easy to sleep in the bed that we made?

More than one:

I won't forget

All the times I waited patiently for you

As you do

Just what you choose to do...

The dog up and died he up and died

That's the second chorus ;)

Correct- it was written by Burt Bacharach and originally recorded by Manfred Mann, but Love's version (which Burt didn't really like) was the one that was a hit.

Good job!

Tin soldiers and nixions coming we're finally on our own

Ohio, CSN&Y. If that's not the best protest song of all time, it's the second best--and Neil Young wrote the other one, too (Rockin' in the Free World). Can't stand his politics but gorram the man can write a catchy tune. B)
