Can't wait! Decent price to pay for a new tool. And garunteed to be more accurate than those new garbage American kits.

Yeah , I know, I am looking forward to this one, and you are right. ;)

I'm guessing it'll be a curbside, but I don't care- I'm more than a little intrigued.

I am going to say more than likely , but as soon as more info is posted, I will update.

Here is a link to pictures of the actual model and what the tooling looks like. For those of you who dont know. If you are looking to purchase any of the Asian manufactured kits this web site is great. Models old and new are on there and you can see the kit instructions as well as the contents of most any model. Try it out its really great resource.

Never seen a long wheel base one of these here in Australia, plenty of short ones though. Pity they didn't make the short wheelbase 1200 utes we got.

My mate picked up a good one for $300 about 12 months ago, they are cool little utes.

Looks like a great kit - Hasegawa is a premier manufacturer. I love the fact that the engine is separate from the chassis even though it's a curbside - makes it a lot easier to paint or convert to full engine detail...

Someone is currently doing a SWB conversion of it .

Here's the parts tree and the decal sheets.

Turns out it is a curbside, but it has some more engine detail than I expected.

Do you guys think you could swap the engine from the recently released Revell Datsun Truck into this? hmm.....

I think the 1/25 Revell Datsun 510's engine would be a better choice, but might look a tad small in the 1/24 engine bay...unless you graft in some/most of the 510's engine bay, too.

Why not go all out and throw in a turbo'd EJ25 out of the Revell WRX and convert it to AWD, problem solved. :D Or go with a turbo'd 12a from the Monogram Rx-7.

Someone's doing a BRE conversion over on Facebook and let me just say that it looks stunning. I really need to get one of these for a mild street custom.

In the December 2014 issue of the Japanese "Model Cars" magazine, there is an interview with Mr. Ano, the tooling designer (who was also the project champion) of the Sunny Truck, and Mr. Yamanishi from Hasegawa's project development team.

Ano has pitched the project to management for 3-4 years, each time it was rejected he would polish up the proposal, and at last it was accepted. His original plan was to have a full detailed kit with separate chassis and body parts that allow it to be built as a long or short body, and engine detail. The long/short body option was rejected due to the complexity of the parts involved, and the engine was dropped due to tooling cost. Instead Hasegawa has designed the kit to be easy to build with minimal parts, to broaden the appeal to not only regular modellers but also to owners and fans of the Sunny Truck.

The vote for long and short body was split pretty evenly. Ano himself prefers the short body. In the end Hasegawa decided to choose the version that would have appealed to most people based on the number of actual cars sold as well as the number of cars still exist, and the long body was picked.

For anyone who would like to convert it to the short body, the wheelbase difference is 230 mm (2530 mm for the long body vs 2300 mm for the short body) and the bed length difference is 290 mm (1960 mm vs 1670 mm). So you will need to shorted the body by 9.58 mm in front of the rear wheel arch and 2.5 mm behind the rear wheel arch, and adjust the chassis accordingly. The reinforcing ribs decrease from 8 to 7 for the main truck bed side panels and from 4 to 3 for each side access panels. The number of hooks on the truck bed decrease from 5 to 4 on each side.

Neat kit. Went to look at them on eBay. The prices were not good. More than I'm willing to pay.

Scott

$25 is the cheapest I found, which is about $3 more then I paid for mine, thats a decent price for the kit.
