Nothing like cutting up plastic huh Ira. :) Obvious you're having fun on this build. Can't wait for more. Tim

Ira,

I'm of the camp for chopping it....modestly though. Maybe scale, 3" ? Looks like you're having A LOT of fun with this build.

Cheers,

Tim

Ira... That body is shaping up real nice. I have to agree with Tim a chopped top would add to the awesomeness of this build...lol but I know how much more work it is.

A Cage For The Beast!

Before I started the Roll Cage, I added 4 lengths of Square Tubing to extend the Motor Mounts.

I made the first section of the Cage from Bendable Plastic Rod. I measured , Bent and Glued it in place.

I made the 2 Support Bars from Plastic Tubing and glued them in place as shown.

More Bars!

Next, I cut 2 lengths of Tubing and glued them between the Roll Bars.

Then I added 2 more on the Front.

After trimming the mounts from the bottom of the Seat, looks like we have enough room for the Driver.

DSCN4906M_zps109338da.jpg

We have plenty of room for the Engine too. Good News! There is enough room to do a Very Serious Top Chop later...

Looking good Ira! I like the way the body is shaping up, and , I can see why you're thinking of chopping the top.

Thanks Gene!

Chopping The Top!

After finishing the Roll Cage I found that I could remove about 3/16 of an inch from the Top. I used 3/16" masking tape as a Template for the 2 Cut Lines. I drew the lines with a Sharpie.

I cut out the areas between the lines with a Cut-Off Wheel.

I Sanded the Cut Edges smooth on a Sheet of 120 Grade Sandpaper. I simply Sanded the edges on a the Sandpaper on a flat surface.

I glued the body halves together with Zap-A-Gap, Green Label.

I also thought about the resemblance to a very streamlined train engine. With all of the parts you have removed from the original kit you have still managed to retain some of the product identity by keeping the side spear the V shape of the front end and the cool windshield shape.

Going to be another epic model when completed!!
