Chillyb1 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) I built this from the excellent Tamiya kit in 1/24 scale, which depicts the 1966 model year of this car. I decided to paint it in a scheme that was more common to these cars in the 1950s. The exterior is painted with Tamiya lacquers: black on the roof and a custom mixed color for the rest of the body, with clear coat over the whole body. The interior is detail painted in various shades to mimic the real thing: Check out that dashboard detail! The engine is complete but I glued the engine cover closed. The chrome trim around the windows is Bare Metal Foil; all other chrome is Alclad II. Edited September 14, 2014 by Chillyb1

DanR Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 This build makes me want to buy the kit. Great work.
crazyjim Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Gorgeous and SHINY :) but I can't see any dashboard details.
Bob Ellis Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Nice build. Those cars have been gone so long around here that we forget about them.
peekay Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Love these cars/this kit and you did a fantastic job on it.
Draggon Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Beautiful Ghia! I think I just saw this on ebay...
Chillyb1 Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Beautiful Ghia! I think I just saw this on ebay... Yes, that is where it currently resides. Thanks for the comments, everyone. It is a fantastic kit and I highly recommend it to all modelers with even the slightest interest in the subject. This project was a quickie build that I cranked out because I really wanted to see if that paint job would turn out the way it looked in my brain. Everything went together so smoothly that there was nothing to slow up the build. I'll try to get better pictures, but, in the meantime, Jim, you can click on the second picture above and then blow it up to full size to see the detail I'm talking about. I just think it turned out great so I want to show it off.
Guest Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Very nice. More light would help brighten up your pics.
Chillyb1 Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Very nice. More light would help brighten up your pics. Yes, we've had nothing but gray, overcast skies for the last couple of days. But tomorrow there will be sunshine so I'll try to capture the Ghia in all its glory!
om617 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Very pretty. Not sure if it was of intention, but i like how the wheels and steering wheel match color.
Chillyb1 Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Very pretty. Not sure if it was of intention, but i like how the wheels and steering wheel match color. Yes, it was intentional. That color is Tamiya's Racing White (TS-7, I think).
Jeremy Jon Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Looks great, super clean build, bravo!!
