jbwelda Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) man I have to say I hate that junk cast in the side window area. gotta be really careful or you are in for some more remedial surgery. I wonder if that is there to support the roof? sure looks nasty to me and I (edit: oops) don't (end edit) seem to recall that from prior versions I have. its not like its a big deal, it just looks ugly. jb Edited January 2, 2015 by jbwelda
moparfarmer Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 When you remove that big blob it is a big deal..Use your sprue cutters the wrong way and you're in trouble..Never saw those blobs from any model done in America, just the Chinese stuff...

Agreed. That's why I posted that close-up photo. I also don't like the rubbery "plastic" used in the kits manufactured in China, but that's another discussion topic for another time...
Don Sikora II Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 The tab in the window is probably for support, but it's possible there is a molding issue and the tab is acting as a "runner" to help the plastic fill the entire body. When I come across something like that I use a thin photo-etch saw and carefully cut it out.

250 Testa Rossa Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Missing Link Resin has brought back the '65 Corvair hubcaps. Maybe they will do a few conversions for this kit.
Jon Cole Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 These cars look great with a wire wheel cover w/ three prong spinners. This one has the covers from JoHan '68 Chrysler with parts box spinners. The 3M die cut whitewalls on Prestige issue Corvair tires with sidewall sanded smooth leave a lot to be desired. This is such an old build. Think I could do better now. Or not LoL.
Guest Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 from an earlier release Very nice. Are those wheels from AMT's 68 Shelby? These cars look great with a wire wheel cover w/ three prong spinners. Bob Ellis Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 My comment; The turbo is missing ( was between the steering wheel and the instrument box) on the chrome tree. The tires for stock look like they came from a lawn tractor. First disappointing set of tires on the Round2 offerings. The box is nice, got a vert boot and it's nice to see another run of the Corvairs.
250 Testa Rossa Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) I was really hoping Round 2 would get the Yenko Stinger logos right, but they didn't even include them. Hey, at least they included the Fitch Sprint decals. Edited January 5, 2015 by 250 Testa Rossa
Drake69 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I built this Prestige model for my mother. Hers was the same color gold with tan interior....
1972coronet Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The tires for stock look like they came from a lawn tractor. First disappointing set of tires on the Round2 offerings. The dreaded AMT "Snow Tyres" ... at least that's what I refer to them as .
Dave Darby Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The dreaded AMT "Snow Tyres" ... at least that's what I refer to them as . I'm shocked that those God-awful Rally GTs are back. Worst tire ever put in an AMT model kit. Possibly in any model kit. Rest of the kit looks good though...
250 Testa Rossa Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I usually replace the kit tires anyway, and use aftermarket items instead.
oldscool Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I don't get why Round 2 included those tires. They have the perfect tires in the 60 Ranchero kits.
Bob Ellis Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Post a pic of the Ranchero tires? I don't understand where the original AMT compact tires went.
oldscool Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Post a pic of the Ranchero tires? I don't understand where the original AMT compact tires went. As you wish! Ranchero tire with whitewall and original Corvair tire on right: Look identical except for the whitewall and material to me.
Casey Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I'm shocked that those God-awful Rally GTs are back. Worst tire ever put in an AMT model kit. Possibly in any model kit. Rest of the kit looks good though... Those aren't the Rally GTs, but rather the 13" Firestone Super Sports (in earlier on-pen pic, at left) and Michelin X tires. To my knowledge, the only other 13" tires AMT has access to are the BFG Advantage T/As which were included in their '90s lowrider themed kits, and would look far too new on a '69. I don't get why Round 2 included those tires. They have the perfect tires in the 60 Ranchero kits. Original tires? According to the review comments on the recently resissued OG '60 Ranchero, the wheels and tires are larger than 13": http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76500&p=1070859 Considering how few AMT/MPC kits would need to be reissued with 13" tires, I'm not surprised AMT just went with what they did.
250 Testa Rossa Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I was really hoping they'd bring back the original tires.
Bob Ellis Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Oldscool, those are the old compact Goodyear tires. Just needs a thin whitewall. So, they still have the tire.
oldscool Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Oldscool, those are the old compact Goodyear tires. Just needs a thin whitewall. So, they still have the tire. That's what I was trying to say, they still have the tire mold available so why give us the crappy "snow tires".
Casey Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 So, they still have the tire. they still have the tire mold available You two both know this for a fact? Or are you speculating based on previously released kits which included the compact tires? What was the last AMT kit released with the compact tires in question?

The whitewall tire in my pic came from the Ohio George Ranchero kit with the date 7/23/2014 on the box bottom so it is a very recent release.
