gtx6970 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Mopar undercarriages were a medium grey in color for MOST build plants. ,,, The undercarriage of an LA Plant built was black . All would have a slight body color over spray along the rocker panels ,,exactly how much varied from car to car. The there are/were cars that received factory underocating,,they would all be a rough textured black. Rear axle was a low gloss black , regardless of axle type. The only exception to this would be the center section/carrier only on an 8-3/4 would be bare iron color. Here is a pretty decent undercariage show , 1970 Challenger ,,I think the lighting is making the primer color look darker then it actually is because I dont think this car was an LA plant build Edited January 9, 2015 by gtx6970
gtx6970 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) A couple of good places to look around as well for OE stock Mopar stuff http://www.iccahome.org/ http://www.moparaction.com/Article/PoP/PoP.html Edited January 9, 2015 by gtx6970
djmcguire Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 What no valve stems??? You're slippin' Joe! Build's looking great so far with all of the little details you've been adding...far cry from what I thought you were originally doing with this.
mustang1989 Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Man! Thanks a lot Bill!!! Lot's good references! Daniel:You're tellin' me on the far cry? Ha Ha Ha! It's a far cry from what I thought I was going to do with it originally! lol Thanks for the encouragement bud. Carl:Thank you kindly sir! Edited January 9, 2015 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 I spent some time in the engine bay this morning masking off the washer fluid bottle and painting that up. Still have a little work to do to that before I post anything on that though. I did, however, start working on that horn. As mentioned earlier I robbed a horn from a Mustang kit I had and was going to use it but I just couldn't bring myself to use it as it was................... So I cut the molded in mount off of it and cut a strip of spare PE I had then super glued it in place on the horn: and painted the whole assy. Waiting for the paint to dry now.......... It's not exactly like the real thing but it's a helluva lot closer than it was that's for sure! lol
Mopar - D Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Nice update Joe. So Joe is the washer bottle going to be half full or half empty ?
slusher Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Nice touch adding the bracket to the horn....
BirdWatcher Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Nice touch adding the bracket to the horn.... Yeah! I agree. Almost has to be wired now.
mustang1989 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Yeah! I agree. Almost has to be wired now. Thank you all very much! To the statement Buzz made......................................I know........lol
mustang1989 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Yeah! I agree. Almost has to be wired now. Well you said............ It doesn't look like much yet but I've got a method here. Although you can't see it these wires are fused together by a bead of superglue. My aim is that once I paint all this up that 1.) The wires will have more of a "taped together" or fused "look" and 2.) hide the minor boo-boo caused by the super glue run-off at the horn. Most of this morning was spent in research and mapping out how I'm going to pull this off . I drilled a hole in the firewall just to the right side of the brake booster where the electrical harness breakout is. I'm going really slow with all of this so I only have to attempt this electrical harness thing once. I don't know how detailed I'll get with it but we'll see how it goes................
Jeremy Jon Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Awesome work Joe, great details and workmanship, bravo!!!
mustang1989 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Thanks Jeremy. Believe me.....a lot of times I'm surprised myself. lol What size wire is that Joe? Funny you should ask that Pat. If you work on or are around cars much , you have a stockpile of this stuff. I have a stash of fuel pump relays from the GM dealership days laying around. I crack 'em open and walah! You have a whole mini roll of it: I had used it in making the spark plug wires for my Bandai 1/48 BMW R75 build not too long ago. This was a good build but I recently acquired the Tamiya 1/48 version that has truer to scale wheel spokes (the wheel spokes and that "up armored" rear licence plate holder were my only regret about this build looking back-but then again , hindsight is 20/20 when your looking back....lol ). The whole thing is just under 2" long.......... Edited January 11, 2015 by mustang1989
tbill Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Joe, you are out of control......in a good way looking good, keep at it
mustang1989 Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 No I'm not...........I've got it under control................I don't have a problem! Ok ok......................My name is Joe and I'm a plastiholic!!! lol Thanks Tom!
Mopar - D Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Joe your to much again in a good way. You know that with all the wiring your doing you will have to wire up the head lights.
mustang1989 Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 I've gotta draw the line somewhere or I'll end up in a friggin' mental institution somewhere. lol Thanks Dan!!!
mustang1989 Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Ok there's not much of an update for today other than the fact that I've got some stenciling on the voltage regulator and I have the horn painted and have the wiring mostly completed for it. First the voltage regulator. Now the stenciling that's there is NOT correct but to the casual onlooker it will blend with the rest of the detail in the engine compartment. I managed to take some 1/48 scale stencils that I had from an Eduard F6F Hellcat kit I had and break it up, then applied it and and a coat of Microsol and clear coated it to make it look more "printed on". I'll end up routing the electrical leads under the existing wire harness at the rear of the engine that I already have in place.. The horn electrical leads/ harness is completed and painted. Looks like the super glue coating did it's desired effect with what looks like wires shrouded by tape/ wrapping with the two leads visible just before the horn. I may go over the electrical "wrapping" with a coat of semi-gloss clear. Now hopefully I can move on to more tangible progress with this build for cryin' out loud! lol
