Tony Bryan Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) In Australia, we have the Prostar, but under the name or Banner if you like of the Cat Group, so I decided to have a go at building an Aussie version, here is the grill, badge and front bar so far, on the Aussie version they have a square tank and no side flaring, also have to scratch the hood 1/4 guards Edited December 13, 2014 by Tony Bryan
richellis Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Im watching this, I was looking at this conversion the other day
Petetrucker07 Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 I figured somewhere in the world the 2 companies would do this, since theyre partners. This is gonna be cool. Nice work so far.
Fabrux Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Well now this is neat! I also find the CT610 interesting as it uses the IH extended cab; wonder if there is a small bed back there or more seating?
vincen47 Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Interesting, what is under the hood of the Cat versions?
lapazleo Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Better looking bumper than the US version. Seem to have a variety of sleeper options according to their websites.
Turbo590 Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Tony...if anyone call pull this off..its you will be checking back in for progress....
Aaronw Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Interesting, in the US we have some CAT trucks built on the IH chassis, but they have a completely different hood. I haven't seen one that is basically just a rebadged Prostar. Nice work so far, the grill looks great.
Tony Bryan Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 Interesting, what is under the hood of the Cat versions? They are fitted with a C15, I'll chop the max force and scratch the head of a C15 to make it look close Well now this is neat! I also find the CT610 interesting as it uses the IH extended cab; wonder if there is a small bed back there or more seating? In Australia we don't lounge around, the sleeper is just that a sleeper, it has a bunk in it

I haven't seen one that is basically just a rebadged Prostar. Nice work so far, the grill looks great. As you can see Aaron it is very prostar, but the subtle differences are no side skirt, square tanks, no international badging, different front bar, etc, The US version is ugly, but easy to build if someone wanted to have a go, mod the prostar cab and scratch the hood
kilrathy10 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Tony, that is one cool looking truck....I really like the way they do the tanks on it......I busted up laughing about what you said about the US Cat branded truck being ugly......Because I was thinking the SAME thing......It's definitely ugly, but it looks the part.....It has the look of just plain good old brute force....And for that reason, it will sell.....That and it's a CAT.....But that Aussie version looks AWESOME.....I can't wait to see how this build goes.....I'll be watching this one for sure....
Chris guthro Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Very cool! See quite a few North American CAT trucks here and never really grew to liking them at all, one came into work for fuel filters once and there was like a four filter system and very complicated looking wiring/pollution gear. And resembled nothing of the older c15's
Casey429 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 From what I've read, for EPA regulations the US market Cat trucks use the International MaxxForce engines painted Cat yellow. With Caterpillar leaving the highway engine market a few years back, they don't have an engine that is emissions compliant for highway use. By partnering with Navistar, they saved a lot of R&D on their end to get back in the highway market. I can't speak for what powers the ones down under, but they're much better looking for sure. I like the rebadge approach better than the tacking an ugly hood onto a Paystar approach.

Petetrucker07 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Its a different motor than the Maxxforce. It is Cat and Navistar engineered and made. Theyre ID'd, CT 13 and CT 15.
Tony Bryan Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Dash and firewall converted to RHD, this was done by a good friend of mine, I just cast it for him Edited December 16, 2014 by Tony Bryan
72 Charger Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 This is cool I like both of the Cat trucks. I will be watchin
Tony Bryan Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Done a little more to the CAT,all badge work is finished and the front bar is also finished All that is left to do is the 1/4 guards and share tanks, my add an ice pack also
mackd Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Tony is a very interesting model I like. I am anxious to see the result. I love your work.
