Impalow Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) My kits have finally arrived!!! Wont be delving into this 100% for a little while.. but the start is there. Honda accord wagon... with Honda Indy Mid-engine.. and some fun sleeper tricks. (Donor kits Audi R8 and an Enzo) Edited February 3, 2015 by Impalow
Foxer Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Ferrari 250 GTO Ricardo found a pair of mag wheels to fit the back where he was missing an original wheel. Now he could slip the wheels on to see how the clearances were. Up on wheels! Oh, the Ferrari people are going to groan!
christian-w Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 @Impalow ... Awesome! I love this wagon I drove mine about 11 years and was really sad, as our ways separated because of a broken valve. It had 323323 kilometers on the clock. Loved it. I'm looking forward on your built All together: nice and good progresses! I'd like to remind you, that I'm still on the start with my Mini-Honda runner. Nothing big was going on but after 2 1/2 hour of sanding, cutting and a lot of dry fits I made the engine fitting the engine bay. Shortened the oil pan, lowered the cylinder head and valve cover about 1mm, cut some parts of the wheel house, the inner fender and hood, shortened the intake manifold and pipe and some more..... Here it is..... I'm satisfied with it so far. Now I'm working at the exhaust and axles.
Belugawrx Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Looking good Christian Whoa.. that took some cramming ! Cheers
MeatMan Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Definite shoehorning!! Now, about that radiator...
Belugawrx Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Speaking of rad,... got mine done for the '62 Impala Stole this from a Dale Jr's And since it will be visible from the outside... covered it with styrene and framed with evergreen strips.... Remembered I had some scale mesh ! Wrapped the frame with duct foil tape Cheers
Dragfreak Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I started on the cage, I think I'll just be doing a hoop, down, and door bars since that'll be all it needs. The hoop I made out of brass to aid in keeping it's shape. The rest with be styrene/ aluminum rod. The hoop I managed to hide behind the b pillar, I had to add a slight bend back at the door line to follow the slight angle the pillar has so you really cannot tell its there. That with the tinted windows and nobody should be able to tell anything is there.
christian-w Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) Like the Ford - have the same colored kit in my shelf The radiator looks pretty nice! When I was done with the engine, I also took some minutes to think about the radiator. I have to do some testing with the little one of the Mini and the one of the Honda. hjracing Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 My idea of a Sleeper that can run in a "canonball" style race is: -Stock look (standar colors, nothing of custom paint scenes). -Stock looking wheels (this cause a great trouble to me, 'couse for me to be a "safe" racer you'll need wide and better tham stock tires). -Almost near to stock ride height. -Stock lookin interior. -Hi performance engine, but you have to think in gas consumption, 'couse the less time you use on the gass station is better. -Better, but hide, brakes. I'm still waithing for the parts I need, but meantime I'm planing my build, I hope I'll have something to show in a few days. Greetings from across the pond!

Looking forward to seeing your work.
Lunajammer Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 -Stock looking wheels (this cause a great trouble to me, 'couse for me to be a "safe" racer you'll need wide and better tham stock tires). This is one I'm struggling with. Having all the performance pieces of a super car, then putting PT Cruiser wheels on it when the Audi R8 wheels with their profile, width and tread are just sitting there... PT cruiser wheels look wimpy & pathetic even on a PT Cruiser.

hjracing Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 True. That's why man invented hub caps. Use the Audi parts, but disguise them with some creative trimming on the PT wheels. Yes, this is the way I'll take, but you need bigger wheels to mount better tires, and those don't looks "stock" any more. You need wider and better "foot print" tires too...
Belugawrx Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Same problem here,... Who's gonna believe a gramma grocery getter with Eagle ZR40's So steelies on polyglas Gt's ? Stock olds 442 with knockoffs on ..... Gotta be something around here somewhere
Lunajammer Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) True. That's why man invented hub caps. Use the Audi parts, but disguise them with some creative trimming on the PT wheels. Hmm. Worth exploring. Sounds like a couple more evenings. I may have already butchered the suspension enough to only take PT rims. Edited February 5, 2015 by Lunajammer

That's the route I'm taking. Got the wheels & tires from a BMW parts kit and some caps from an Impala. I've already sized it up and it looks like a plan.
exesivefire Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I'm not stressing about wheels so much. I think I can get away with it on my build though.. A crusty 53 sedan delivery with big wheels doesn't really scream fast to me

A crusty 53 sedan delivery with big wheels doesn't really scream fast to me I agree, the teens that live around here love to put $3000. Wheels on $500. Cars all the time. Didn't make any of theirs faster.

I saw on one of those court shows, like People's Court, where a guy had gone to Rent-A-Center and rented those $3000 wheels. Imagine that! He was being sued by Rent-A-Center because the car got repossessed with the wheels on it. Edited February 6, 2015 by Tom Geiger

One of the things to think about is "would this car actually drive coast to coast?" Some of the ideas in this thread would be more for a drag race than a transAtlantic run. And things like a jet engine, Ferrari or Lambo drive train would be impossibly expensive to achieve unless you got Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg to sponsor you! I will jump into this build eventually. I just have a lot of other stuff going right now. Plus I work better under pressure at the last minute! Edited February 6, 2015 by Tom Geiger

zenrat Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) I started on the cage, I think I'll just be doing a hoop, down, and door bars since that'll be all it needs... You don't "need" a cage. There is no scrutineering and no rules. You can of course build one in if you plan to roll the car but you'll have to make sure it's not too visible. As for big wheels - try painting the rims black. With hub caps they should then look fairly stock. While sports wheels on a beater don't mean it's fast they would attract the attention of the cops who will be thinking "teenage driver, lets have him". Edited February 6, 2015 by zenrat
hjracing Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I don't say that the Ferrari or Lambo engine swaps are unrealistic, in fact, a long time ago I saw an article in Jp magazine of a Jeep Wagoneer whit a Ferrari engine on it, for long an fast travels, whit a really stock look! Here is the link. http://www.fourwheeler.com/project-vehicles/154-0909-1977-jeep-wagoneer-the-jerrari/
