JTalmage Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I got my turbo's in from Hobby Link Japan yesterday. Smaller than I thought
Jantrix Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) The Smart ist awesome! @Rob ... What engine do you have ? It's the AMT Supra 2JZ. The kit designers got the plumbing backward so I've had to get creative. Per the schematic the point where part 62 meets the turbo is the cold air intake. So the same should be true on the other side. Technically part 85 should be the output to the intercooler, but they have the air cleaner on it instead. More soon. Here's the schematic of the real engine. Edited March 10, 2015 by Jantrix
Dragfreak Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Here's a teaser before bed, tomorrow after track practice I'll get some more on here. I did get it painted using the salt method. For my first try ever, I'd say it came out pretty good. The color is krylon short cuts hunter green, I added some dents and hit with dull coat as well. The wheels are gloss black and the interior is satin black with body color accents.
Lunajammer Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I haven't posted much but I'm enjoying what I see here every day. I worked on hinging the PT Cruiser tailgate last night. It soon became clear this is more challenging than hinging a door or trunk lid.
christian-w Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) Thanks Rob! Never saw a Subaru Supra stupid Boy as a kit Have to look it up. Thanks! After I looked it up, I'm informed. Good to know, that the kit has such a cool engine included Edited March 11, 2015 by christian-w
Jantrix Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) After I looked it up, I'm informed. Good to know, that the kit has such a cool engine included As I mentioned the AMT kit's engine is not mechanically correct from it's original design. If you like the engine I'd look into some of the Tamiya Supra kits. I'm just using this one, because it's what i have, Jason that is looking awesome. Gonna add a wash or some chalks? FatBoyKuztoms Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Got sick with this stupid cold so bench time will be slowed down until I start to feel better.
Dragfreak Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) Here's some more progress photos, I still have to finish detailing the engine and interior. Now, I want to do some more weathering, but I'm on a budget. So what is relatively cheap and something I can try to further the realism? Edited March 12, 2015 by Dragfreak
exesivefire Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Dullcoat, acrylic washes, light scuff or sanding?
Dragfreak Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) Dullcoat, acrylic washes, light scuff or sanding? The body was sanded then dull coated. What acrylics do you use for washes? And do you thin it with water or lacquer thinner? Also, I've heard of weathering with sanded pastel powder, is there a certain type to use for that? Edited March 12, 2015 by Dragfreak
Jantrix Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Regular craft store acrylics thinned with water will do fine for washes. Same with chalks. Standard art pastels.
Lunajammer Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Earthtone pastels are good because you get a variety of colors. There are many brands that any art supply store might carry. There are smaller, cheaper packs but they don't include black and/or gray which I think is important for mixing.
georgeshaeffer Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) Alas, reality sets in. Given my current medical condition and that of my girlfriend, the jet powered Chevy van will have to fall by the wayside. I'll be doing a 68 Hemi Dart beater with grocery-getter wheels and I'm thinking only a single exhaust visible. So please note the change for entry #33! Edited March 12, 2015 by georgeshaeffer
Jantrix Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Some plain-jane steelies with poverty caps would go perfect with that George.
Antikainen Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I´m still here, nothing has happened to my GMC Motorhome since my last post. Sometimes life does get in the way. In my mind I have already planned all modifications needed so now I just have to build it.
Jantrix Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Ugh. This AMT 2JZ is just more problems than it's worth. The belt assembly shown is AMT's idea of AC compressor, power steering, and alternator. Just some round blob on the pulley. I've had to dive into my parts bin to get some decent looking pieces.
georgeshaeffer Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) Re: Hemi Dart Already got the steelies from Ralph, along with skinny tires. Don't plan on any hubcaps, just rusty steelies. Also going to make it a flat hood, This will be my first attempt at rust - hope it works. Already watched a bunch of YouTube videos, so I guess I'm now an expert (WRONG!). Haven't decided what to do with interior - leave it nice or make it ratty. Decisions, decisions, decisions...... Edited March 14, 2015 by georgeshaeffer
FatBoyKuztoms Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Did some work on this, got the passenger door cut open. Just need to find the rod to make door hinges with. Will post pictures tomorrow

KeithJackson Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I have rethought how I am going to be modifying my Ecto-1A while waiting to get my parts all together. I had originally planned for a hearse conversion, but my wife thought that was kind of creepy. Instead I will be turning it into a '70s style family wagon on steroids. Think Ghostbusters meets National Lampoon's Vacation meets Cannonball Run. I am going to go with the green paint and LOTS of woodgrain paneling. Also, instead of removing all the mounting stuff on top of the car, that will be used as the basis for a luggage rack.
W-409 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Alright finally I was able to start my entry. It's the Small Block Chevy Powered Trabant that I mentioned on page 1 a while ago. And of course, I'm shooting for an original looking car with a SBC with a big turbocharger under the hood. Lots of cutting is needed in interior and chassis and engine bay, but I'm trying to make it look pretty much factory made. Here's the starting point: First thing was to find an engine for this. I had one glue bomb engine from AMT '66 Nova Pro Street so I thought it would be a good basis for this one. Turbocharger is taken from a Truck kit, so it should be big enough? Well, obviously the Small Block Chevy is a bit bigger than Trabant's original two stroke engine so I had to do some cutting to the chassis and interior floor first to make some room for the engine & tranny. I cut a hole on the firewall and to the floor, but this wasn't quite enough so I had to bend the firewall to 90 degree angle to allow some more engine room. Then it was time to see how the engine and turbo fit under the hood. Next part that needed some cutting was the part that comes under dashboard. This had to be cut a little to make room for valve covers, distributor and throttle body setup. Next I'll need to add a bit of styrene to cover the hole I just made on that part... And the last picture shows which tires I'll be using. I wanted a bit wider tires than those originals, but still so small ones that they would not give it away that the car is a Sleeper. Those tires are from AMT '76 Chevy Monza kit.

TFchronos Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 That's going to be a nasty little Trabant Niko.
