Duntov Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 NOW DONT GET ME WRONG--- I enjoy seeing what people built in 2014 --- it was a banner year from what I can see --- I am in awe of almost everyone who posted their accomplishments on the forum ----congratulations to you all ---- BUT --- I think it is time to have a separate forum just for last years builds --- like maybe have it up for the first month or so and then move on to the excellent single builds that people are already engaged with --- Several nice builds that were posted only in the last few days are now 3-4-5 even 6 pages down in the "Under Glass" section --- The idea was to get some feed back on what you finished "recently" NO??? Like I said ---- I LIKE THE 2014 BUILDS!!!!! Its just that they need a section all their own for a month or two----- Seems a bit counter intuitive to me to "bury" everything else for a series of single posts --- OK --- off the soap box. Regards Bill (Duntov)
chunkypeanutbutter Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I'm tired of people who complain about non-problems The topics you're looking for are still there. Just a few mousewheel scrolls or button clicks further down.

Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I think it would be nice to have a "my builds of xxxx" section on the forum. Not because of this, but if we left it on there full time as a section it'd be nice to look back at some of your builds as years go by. Also because of the same reason here, though, but I didn't mind it as much.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Totally missed the point --- not surprised---- How did I miss the point, exactly? The topics are still there. These "look what I did last year" topics will die out. If the other topics that you like are being updated, they'll be pushed to the top. Everything will be good again. Yes? Yes?
Snake45 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I'm with you, Duntov. I've got a couple of new things to post, but I'll wait until all the Year In Review threads start to fade.
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Nice thought but I don't see another place for year in review builds happening. There have been calls for more sections before and the answer is the same. Also There is also another contigent that says there are already too many sections.
Tom Geiger Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I like the year in review posts. They are correctly put in the Under Glass section because they are finished models that we have built. What difference is there that there are several vehicles in each post, rather than just one? It's guys posting work they are proud of, and that's what the section is about.
peekay Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 As the guy who started the whole thing this year I'm sorry if it didn't please everyone. I personally enjoyed the lot and I think many more models got unburied this way than got buried. I don't think a seperate section would make sense as it would lie fallow for the rest of the year. Perhaps, as someone suggested, it would be best to hold back a new model till the new year when traffic returns to normal.
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I believe the issue isn't with the build reviews rather the volume of the posts. Something posted can end up down a page or more. The common request is to add more specialized forum topics. However that creates other issues. Where do you put the new item? Somebody else doesn't want it separated out. Or people won't put their topic in the right place.
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I agree that it makes things a little "messy", but it will all go back to normal soon & anyone who is worried about a buried build can always re-post if they feel it's warranted. Steve
rmvw guy Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I totally enjoyed all the posts this round! All the new builds are easy to find if you just look at "new content" on a regular basis. All the "off topic lounge" and "general" posts usually clog the forum, which I don't mind either, just saying. Still the greatest forum on the planet imho.

I have to agree -- still the best forum out there --- I appreciate the thoughtful replies ---- (even if the year in build posts don't get separated out) --- as I said -- still good stuff!!! OK --- back to building!
Jon Haigwood Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 like a kidney stone it too will pass, and a lot less painfully
Art Anderson Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Personally, I see nothing wrong with it--it's neat to see, in one post, what a member here has done in the year now past. Art
Tom Geiger Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Personally, I see nothing wrong with it--it's neat to see, in one post, what a member here has done in the year now past. Agreed. I find it interesting to see just how many models everyone manages to build (so I can feel inferior!), and the variety of subjects that some of us will take on. You'd only see that in posts like these since nobody remembers any builder's every build.
Guest Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I see no problem either. It's a case of if you don't want to see the post, don't look at it.
unclescott58 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Oh good, I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Showing all of your year's work at once is too much for me. I like to look at models one at time. So I've been avoiding the year end threads. Thanks for posting this thread. It nice to see I'm not alone. Scott
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 This forum is like playing telephone by the time it gets around the room the phrase is totally different that what it started as. The op commented was that he liked the build reviews but because of the volume of posts new posts could end up several pages back. He was commenting that there should be a separate section for end of year build reviews.

Oh well. Scott
Bernard Kron Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) I've never seen anything like the number of year-end review threads that we got this year. It had a wonderfully celebratory vibe to it all that I really enjoyed! I completely agree with Duntov that it had the unintended and unfortunate effect of burying many fine individual completions many pages back. I know that many members come here infrequently and only page back a limited number of pages in each section so I think the point is well taken. Despite the fact that I think we already have far too many sections and categories, I do think it would be great if each year we celebrated the holiday season with a "My Year of 20xx" something .... maybe a pinned thread initiated on a certain date by the Admins, or a section for individual threads. a kind of bucket as it were, that perhaps got closed down for new threads at some pre-arranged date. Either would invite the opportunity for a Seasonal promotion that would create the celebratory feeling I mentioned earlier and provide a fine way to see in the New Year IMHO. peekay Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 The post is titled "Tired of the what I built (last year) crowd" so it's a little ambiguous.
Bernard Kron Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 The post is titled "Tired of the what I built (last year) crowd" so it's a little ambiguous. Yes, I think the title is a bit misleading given what Duntov actually wrote, which was more constructive and less confrontational.
