timc Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) I got what's left of mine in the mail this morning. I had a what the hell moment when I opened the mailbox. See for yourself guys. Edited January 17, 2015 by timc
timc Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Is this what the $40 a year gets you? Thinking about just getting them from the hobby shop from now on. I know this is not Gregg's fault, it's a great mag. The publisher needs to address this in some way. Sorry for the rant.
Craig Irwin Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Exactly why I buy at the hobby shop.
espo Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Looks like the Post Man was reading it on his lunch break.
JohnU Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Really? How can the publisher be resposable for this dammage? I have a hard time thinking it would leave the printers like that. It's obviously the careless handling by the USPS! Haven't had this problem yet but if I did, that would be were I would start to complain first!
oldnslow Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Start bagging the issues please. I receive many of my subscriptions that way.
High octane Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I used to get a lot of my Model Cars magazine in terrible condition when I had a subscription, so now I buy them at the hobby shop.
cobraman Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Mine used to arrive like that as did other magazines I subscribe too. I took a couple to the PO and showed them and complained, and so far I have been getting all my magazines in good condition.
my80malibu Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I saw one tonight at the LHS. It looked like a very low quality paper was used. Even the print looked like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.
edward smith Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 By the look of the first picture, looks like a nice and thick issue for this one. Can't wait to have it. Beautiful picture of that 'Cuda too!
Danno Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) I've subscribed for years and never had a damaged issue. I get mine from a different post office and a different letter carrier than Lee does. Sad to see some of the color go away, but still a very good quality issue. Higher level content than the pamphlet. (And, yes, I subscribe to that one, too.) Edited January 18, 2015 by Danno
Kris Morgan Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Although I do buy mine at the LHS, my son was given a one year subscription for his b-day by our club. Never had any trouble with damage when they arrived.
Danno Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 You are one of the luckier ones. I wonder if the paper MCM uses is part of the cause? It is the only mag we get that uses it and arrives damaged. I had a problem like you are experiencing with a different magazine a few years ago. All my other subs arrived fine but the one was usually beat up. Turned out the letter carrier was a fan also and my subscription was his subscription. I always got my mag after he was done with it. Finally, a couple of complaints to the Postmaster and the problem cleared up.
Danno Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 The thing is, I started getting MCM from the first issue, living at a different address, in a different part of the twin cities, and it has was arriving wrecked then as well. It's not that. It is happening before it arrives up here. Well, there's always just the whole Twin Cities thing . . .
crazyjim Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Has anyone received the December 2014 issue of MCM? I saw a copy at Riders Hobby Shop the other day, but there's no copy at home. Maybe it'll be there when I get home later today. The paper seems to be different - not as shiny.
ZTony8 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I bought my copy at the hobby store last Saturday.I didn't notice any difference in the paper but I wasn't looking for it either.
plastic trucker Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Just got mine in the mail today. The back page is torn up a bit, but other wise it is in ok shape.
Danno Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 It's a little different, but still higher quality than average magazines. It's going to take some adjustment to get used to the reduced color content, but at least the QUALITY of the articles and content is still there. Actually a very good issue . . . just a little ... different ... than we've been used to.

LDO Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Hey guys, what issue(s) would say be more Euro centric having 60's era Ferraris and Porsches? I'm looking to buy some back issues.. Look for old issues of Motor Racing Replica News. I believed it was in print for most or all of the 1990s, maybe beyond 2000.
Harry P. Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 There is no "less color." The number of B/W pages is the same as it ever was.
Roadrunner Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I'm sorry to say that I've never bought a copy, though I've seen them at the LHS on many occasions. Not that much into magazines anymore now.
LDO Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I'm on year 3 of a subscription. I have never received a damaged issue. Obviously, Gregg likes me better. Of course I'm joking. Blaming Gregg & co for what happens after the magazine leaves the publisher is retarded.
timc Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Are you referring to me? LDO? If you would take time to read, I did not blame Gregg. I just stated that the publisher might need to address this issue, maybe bagging the issues or a paper wrapper around them? I might not have stated this in my post but it was what I was thinking. There was no need for the name calling and I will not drop that low on here.
LDO Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I have never received a damaged issue. It's not just you, it's all the guys who act like it's the publisher's fault that their magazine shows up damaged. The publisher...or magazine staff... Don't give instructions to "tear up that guy's copy".
