Eshaver Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 This is a model of the former Triangle Filling station that was built in Richmond Virginia. Erected in 1921, this building served as a "prototype " for the idea of a Cottage in the former Pure Oil company's market territory . This building still stands in Richmond and served in it's capacity until 1953 . Yes, this model has been shown here before . This past Christmas , I was invited by the Lewis Ginter Foundation this past summer to exhibit work I had previously done . This was an invitational doll house and miniature show that was run in conjunction with a Christmas light show . Each year , this show generally draws about 75-80,000 people so being a participant was truly an honor .
1930fordpickup Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 This is a nice little building. I like how you made it to the original building and not the added on after effect.
gbdolfans Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) That is GREAT looking!!! I love your attention to detail and make it lifelike!! Any chance for closer pics of the model? Sixties Sam Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Great work, as always, Ed! The model T 5th wheel camper is cool! Nice work! Sam
bbowser Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Very cool. I like it a lot, packs a big story in a small space.
southpier Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 yeah; the last picture gives perspective to the other close-ups.
Erik Smith Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 That's really cool Ed. That looks like a tiny building with a lot of history. Looking at the pictures, it looks like the brick addition was added where the pumps used to be? What is the building now? Back in the day, were the gas tanks still stored underground? That looks like a tight space to run a station, that's why it's so cool.
Eshaver Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 Erik, to give you an idea of the building , allow me to go back to 1953. Pure oil wanted to install a second tank as "Premium gasoline was fast becoming popular after WWII. The one tank was in between the pump island and the front of the building, a mere 10 foot wide space . I'm told it was an 800 gallon affair using old permit documents I searched out . Then too, There wasn't room for any services as the streets , Burton on the Left , "P" on the right prevented anything like that from happening . The building was "Locked in" so to speak . Yes, the place was a private residence between 1953and 1958. From that point, the place became triangle BBQ Take out #1 . About 1967, the Brick addition was added . I used to go there about 3AM for spare ribs and turnip greens as I worked odd shifts . I finally got to meet the family who made it a take out in 2007 and I began the model of it then . E-
GTMust Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Good to see you back posting Ed. We missed you. Tony

dptydawg Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Another great gas station diorama Ed. It is well crafted and well engineered as always. I take it that this was an independent gas station and not a gas company owned one. Good to see you back Ed. carl
Erik Smith Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the info! Is that a Catalpa tree growing out of the roof? Probably not a good sign...
Eshaver Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Erik, I'm not an Arborist . I'll have to bring in a couple I know at the Virginia Historical society ......................
Krazy Rick Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 You put your heart & soul into these dioramas Ed, and it shows - thanks much
