Junkman Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Imagine how convenient it would be, if you just press a 'Like' button when someone posted something you -well- like. Also, imagine how this would delight whoever posted the post you like. This would spare us pages of this "nice paint", "good job", "well done" as well as countless "I agree" posts, and the poster/ess of the post you like still being aware that you appreciate what he/she posted. It would also be an easy way for you to express your appreciation without having to post another post. Discuss.
Austin T Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I absolutely agree, I'm a member on another forum that uses IP Board as the host and it features a like button (they even had the ability to rename it to where it could be a "Favorite", "Upvote",ect.). I'm sure a few people would be against it but I can't think of any negative repercussions.
Quick GMC Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 A few other boards I go on have a "thanks" button, to show appreciation for help, or a thank you for a contributing post. I haven't seen the like button anywhere else.
jbwelda Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 yeah then we could "like" something! why again? jb
southpier Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 i agree. and a button for: orange peel molding lines fingerprints on glass inaccurate firing order gremmer & spiling mistooks
Joe Handley Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 <p> i agree. and a button for: orange peel molding lines fingerprints on glass inaccurate firing order gremmer & spiling mistooks I need a like button for this post
rmvw guy Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I like the idea of a "like" button like on facebook, is that too many likes in one sentence? Anyway, after you click "like" you could still leave a comment or just "like".
jbwelda Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 >Anyway, after you click "like" you could still leave a comment or just "like". like, don't we kinda already have that "feature" here? ok I will be going now... jb
wayne swayze Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I need a like button for this post I LIKE it also....always enjoy Joe's take on things.
rmvw guy Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) I guess you could say we have 36 likes instead of 36 views and 7 comments would be like 7 replies maybe? Edited February 9, 2015 by rmvw guy

I haven't seen the like button anywhere else. There's a couple forums that I go on that have Thanks buttons and RCCrawler has a Like button. Kind of entertaining to make a sarcastic post and then see how many Like pop up afterwards too for some strange reason!
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Is it too much work to just type "like"? I don't post comments on every thread, just the ones that really interest me. I actually kind of enjoy posting comments occasionally, as well as receiving them. Gives me something to do while the paint dries. Steve
Eshaver Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 The "Like " button can be over used . I have a couple who hit , "Like " every time I throw out a photograph , never a comment .
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) How about an anonymous "yuck" button? Edited February 9, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
1930fordpickup Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Would it be cheaper to add a like button compared to what it cost to have all the simle posts of "cool" Nice work" or "good start" . I do not know what the difference would be if any. I feel it will shorten up the pages on many. Also would the like button only be on the original post or every time someone posts anything?

Steve Could be more of a waste of time and/or bandwidth (or what ever it's called) just to type that one word when poking a button in that post will more than do.

Kind of takes all of the fun out of having a forum where people converse & exchange ideas & niceties. But I guess that's the way of the world these days. I figure if it's too much trouble to type a couple of words, why even post at all. I guess I have no issue with a "like" button, but I will likely not use it myself. Steve
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 A like button would reduce feed back to the original poster. Nice paint, great work, neat concept all provide feedback. If you click a like button that doesn't give any meaningful feedback. What is it you like about the model?
Austin T Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 If you click a like button that doesn't give any meaningful feedback. I hate to be the one that says it,but do you think that seeing "Nice build" posted back to back five times by five different people is meaningful feedback? I don't really post on completed models or WIP's unless I have something I specifically want to mention or commend,I feel like pointing out an excellent execution of brake line plumbing or a realistic interior is far more meaningful to the OP then a three word post. A like button would allow the people who make these short and repetitive posts to show support in a different way and allow more room for people to point out what they individually like about the build. Many times have I gone back and studied the pictures more closely after someone mentions a detail I skimmed over.

A "nice build" posted back to back 5 times is at least a little more personal than clicking a "like" button. If we're going to become that detached, we just as well have an automated system that automatically clicks a "like" button for us every time a new post comes up. I don't respond to every post either, but I feel like if I'm going to, it deserves a little more than just an acknowledgment that it exists. Steve
southpier Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 i've got it: a rewards point account!!! just like Hobbylinc & Dragon; the more clicks, the more points the poster would accumulate in their account. the points could be redeemed at a participating sponsor's webstore for model supplies. oh, wait; there already is a "reward points" program in place ....... nevermind..... s i g h ......
charlie8575 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Like and thanks sound good. So does Bill's anonymous "yuck"/dislike button. Charlie Larkin

If you click a like button that doesn't give any meaningful feedback. What is it you like about the model? Correct. A like button may be affirming, but not helpful. Yes, there would still be room for comments, but people are more likely to elaborate on their "likes" if they're already typing that they like something.
