Lotus 29 Indy Car

17 December 2014 - 07:54 AM

This is the old 1/25 MPC Lotus 29 from the Indianapolis 500 Hall of Fame 3-kit set.  It represents Jimmy Clark's Second Place finisher in the 1963 Indy 500.

I detailed the engine and cockpit, and added the IndyCals resin corrected nose, windscreen, and tires.  Paint is Tamiya Racing Green decanted and airbrushed with IndyCals decals.

There are some things I'm still not happy with.  The rear engine cover does not fit well and the injector stacks are a bit too tall.  If I ever find some better intakes, I'l switch them out and try to fix the engine cover at the same time.   For now, though, I'm calling it done!

Any comments, positive or negative, are welcome.  Thanks for looking!

Monogram Ultimates - Together for the First Time!

19 November 2014 - 11:52 AM

These are the 1/43 Monogram Ultimate Cobra and Corvette.  The Vette is box stock, the Cobra has some engine details added.  Paint on both is Tamiys spray decanted and airbrushed.

These are outstanding kits and it's too bad Monogram/Revell didn't continue the series.

Lotus 98T John Player Special

18 September 2014 - 11:10 AM

This is the Tamiya 1/20 Lotus 99T backdated to Senna's ride in 1986 using the Museum Collection decals.  The build is otherwise box stock.  Paint is Tamiya spray decanted and airbrushed.

Revell Kurtis Midget

01 September 2014 - 04:42 AM

I've had a couple of these kits in my stash since they came out in 2010, but when I picked up the V-R-M decals for them at the IPMS Nationals, I had to build one.  The kit is pretty straightforward, but a lot of the parts are really delicate and require some care and patience to get right.

I added some engine details, rear nerf bars, and seat snaps, but the model is basically box stock. Paint is Tamiya Metallic Red and Racing White decanted and airbrushed, followed by some Omni clearcoat.  All the chrome was stripped and repainted with Alclad and Metalizer.
