  1. That is so awesome! Love it!!! The brass knuckle shifter is a cool touch.
  2. My username is my name, my avatar is a picture my wife took of me while we were on a boat ride on the Rio Coco in Nicaragua on a mission trip in '04 (or was it '05?)
  3. Painting the body. I always seem to get stressed about messing it up and I inevitably get a speck of dust in it despite my best effort. I always put it off till last and now am under a crunch to get it done for the Showdown on March 10th. Did I mentioned this happened last night...
  4. The Metroplex Car Modeler's Association (MCMA) is hosting the annual Showdown at The Dr Pepper Center in Farmer's Branch on Saturday 3/10! Here's the website.
  5. The 32 sedan is a great kit and comes with a "modern" 5.0L (or 302 c.i.) engine and a cool flathead V8. If you want a Chevy engine, it might be a good idea to just buy a kit with a good one, and cheaper, too. Those resin Ross Gibson engines are like $25 and can be a bit of a chore to work with compared to plastic, and don't come with a transmission. Are you looking for a carbureted or injected engine? If you want that same style engine as the Ross Gibson, I would recommend any of the 86 Monte Carlo kits. It also has a nice automatic trans. The block hugger headers can be found in the new 1965 Chevy Stepside kit, the one with the green truck. You can paint the engine any color you want since it's a hot rod. The way the engine mounts to the frame will be different than the original kit intended. You will need to come up with new mounts.
  6. The old AMT 57 Chevy that was last re-issued (that I'm aware of anyway) as the Boyd Coddington version came with a decent engine display stand, a baby alligator, and a trophy, If I'm not mistaken. Didn't the Revell 49 Merc have trophy, too?
  7. That stance is awesome! What kit did the front suspension come from? Can't wait to see the progress.
  8. Jimmy Shine's is a SCOT blown flattie. It's gotta be one of my favorite hot rods of all time. It's bare metal, BTW. Wonderful build so far. I've gotta get one of those blowers!
  9. The roadster version was called Boyd's Smoothster after the actual car. All 3 of these should be readily available on the auction sties and some of the online retailers.
  10. Speaking of faux-tina, I spotted this in front of one of the numerous antique shops near my house the other day. It's a combination of faux and real patina. They even faux-tina'd the steel wheels. Love it!
  11. These are just plain awesome! I do kida like the faux-tina (fake patina).
  12. That's one of my pet peeves, too. Not to mention how a lot of people don't know how to use contractions properly.
  13. Right, but the general rules of speaking English would dictate that it be pronounced REV-ul, because of the first syllable. Like the word "revel" meaning to make merry, or have a good time. If it was supposed to be pronaounced rev-EL, I would expect it to be spelled Revelle. I do think it's supposed to be pronounced rev-EL. I'm just bringing up the argument for the sake of argument, because it's fum to hear (or read, rather) other people's opinions.
  14. In a southwest Virginia, think Galax (gay-lax for the uninitiated) or Rural Retreat - Do what? On another note, how is Revell supposed to be pronounced? Rev-EL, or Rev-ul?
  15. Very nice build! Quick question; are the kit's wheels and tires any good are are the tire sidewalls wayy too big, as has been the case with a lot of Revell's kits these days?
  16. Super smooth! I hope the 59 I'm planning to build (someday...) comes out half as nice!
  17. Unless you're in Bahstan (Boston) where it's pronounced Fahd.
  18. I'm hoping that they do the same to this that they did with the 1/16 Street Charger and are issuing it in this form one last time and then backdating it to the 33 Chevy Panel Truck.
  19. The vowels in Japanese are pronounced the same as in Spanish, from what I've been told. The vowels a, e, i, o, u would be ah, eh, ee, oh, ooh, respectively. The vowels would be pronounced the exact same way inevery word, unlike English where it is depends on the specific word. So it would be "ta-mee-ya" with no emphasis on any syllable.
  20. If I recall correctly, the decals in the Model King issue are pretty awesome.
  21. That car has quite an attitude! I love it! I really like the way you chose to do the tutone paint job.
  22. Dave, I would agree with your definition of a custom car, but the question as to what goes into the custom class at a show would be a Hirohata Merc style Kustom, I guess. Unless, of course the actual contest rules have a different definition.
  23. I would say that is a custom car, but not a "Custom", which implies a particular style, such as the Hirohata Merc, the X-Sonic, the Aztec, Marcos Cruz's awesome T-bird, Steve Boute's work, or Andy Johnson from Texarkana. It should fit into the box stock category, though.
