NNL EAST....still looking for help......UPDATED

Recommended Posts

As I posted earlier I lost a large box full of stuff at NNL EAST. Inside were 5 models I use as display samples of my PENNGWEN decal line. Also some mint in box resin models I was selling and personal items. Wayne PAL staff did not have anything left behind. The NNL crew had some items left but not mine. I'd like to think my stuff got packed in with someone else's stuff....and maybe they will find it.....I am posting the photos of my display samples in case someone finds them. NOT accusing anyone or anything....I must have screwed up myself. And it's just stuff.......but I'd hope to see my stuff again. Thanks for looking..

Dave, was there anything on or in the box which identified the owner (you)? Name, address, phone # or email address?  That would help to locate you (even if someone took it to collect ransom/reward).

Can you re-trace your steps at the NNL? When was the last time you remember seeing or handling that box?  Is it possible that you actually took it out to your vehicle but then left it on the curb or maybe even on the roof of your vehicle?  People do that with their coffee cups and even with babies!

Hopefully what you learned from your son is true and you will be reunited with your stuff soon!

Dave if it were me, I'd think of who was next to my "tables" as vendors, and see if the box it was in could have gotten mixed in with their stuff on both ends of where you were (Unless you only had one "neighbor"), then figure out (Have the staff at NNL help you on that) and contact them to see if the box could have gotten packed in with their items when it became time to pack-it-in for the day.....

Just an idea......

Thanks all......

The box does not have my name on it. It's a old shipping box that had MONOGRAM on it...but about all.

The vendor on the left was long gone when we packed up......the right side was empty table.

Clean up crew said they set box on floor when they took tables down.....but NNL guys said room was empty when they did their sweep.

This might be too basic, but did you check with the building's Security staff to see if someone put it in "Lost & Found?" If so, check again. Somebody's conscience may get the better of them.

I worked in a casino for 10 years and most times people are surprised that we had a warehouse full of items, all dated with the exact location it was found.

At the end of 90 days, it's donated to local charities.

Seems like my stuff is gone forever.  This kinda cripples my business.......but I'd been looking for a reason to move forward or close down....seems I got my answer......losing $700-800 worth of stuff made up my mind for me.

Thanks to those that offered help.  But it seems someone wants my stuff rather than return it.

My optimistic gut feeling is that it's sitting in a room somewhere unopened. That it slipped through the cracks somewhere between the host club and the hotel and is essentially in someone's no-mans land. I'd push the search again next April when people start pulling boxes out and someone says, "What the...?"

That could be the case???

I was searching for what I know realize are your decals and this post came up.   I cannot believe your stuff just walked away. That would make me pretty mad.  Was the mystery ever solved?  I bet some vendors keep stuff packed up until they move on to the next show.

Many years ago, I displayed a model at a contest with a nice trophy it had previously won. And it disappeared right from the contest table. Not a doubt someone took it very well knowing it did not belong to them. I had the instructions for a model in "Box Stock" class disappear from right beside the model before judging, hence disqualifying it on technicality. So, as much as it pains me to admit it and as much no one wants to admit it, there are people like that at shows. Now, having said that, in this case it is very possible the staff found it and threw it away as trash. To us these are valuable stuff, but to many, like my wife for example, it could totally look like someone's junk they left behind. There is also the very possible scenario, that your box is in someone's basement, without them even knowing it  they may find out they took it by mistake at next years show. I took a model to the Heartland Nationals in 2018, which just the other day I found out that I have no clue where it is. Did it disappear, or did I pack it in some box somewhere/ I don't know. It was over year and a half ago.

Either way, Stuff happens and we shouldn't rush to blame people and even less so, to give up on the things we love.

Just my 2 cents.

Michael, we've never had a model disappear from the show table at NNL East.  We have over 30 uniformed staff members patrolling the building in their lime green shirts so we are very visible.  We also have two uniformed police officers, and two plain clothes officers in the building.  We have several EMS people (two on our staff and at least one of the police officers) just in case we have a medical emergency.

We do get models left behind.  Usually someone calls in a panic within the next day. Occasionally someone calls and accuses us of stealing their model.  I ask if it's the red Corvette, and I tell them we have it and are holding it for them.   Same with bags of purchases.  At least one a year.  Our vendors are very honest and always turn those in to us.

That said I do have one very nice Corvette that was left behind at least a decade ago.  And a bag of ancient goodies left behind a few years ago.  Neither was every claimed but I have them set aside just the same.  We are always pleased to reunite people with their stuff.

In Dave's situation,  he was a vendor in the room that is a Bingo hall.  We do have the room rented until 4pm, and Bingo starts at 7pm.  Still around 3pm ladies start showing up for Bingo!  And as our vendors pack up, the hall's team of teenagers come in and set the room up for Bingo.  Dave admits that the vendor next to him had already left, and he believes he placed the box on that table for safe keeping and forgot it. Unfortunately he did not realize he left it behind until he got home.  He called both me and the hall, and then I spoke with the hall manager.  The dumpster had been emptied by then, otherwise I would have driven there and taken a dive myself. I did send an email to all the vendors in that room, and nobody had the box.

I believe that in the haste to get the hall converted to Bingo, the teenagers must've considered the box trash and tossed it out.  Note that vendors do leave behind a lot of empty boxes and other trash, so that makes sense.  Especially since the box contents, which are unique, has not shown up.  It's a small world today and if they were seen on eBay or for sale at a show, someone would've identified them.

Note that I always wait until after everyone has left the building and do one final walk through.  Every year there is at least one model,  a jacket or other things. One year we did have a vendor leave behind a case of kits. I take them home and wait for the calls.  That year there were no boxes left behind.  We're sorry that this did happen to Dave, as he is a friend of mine and NNL East.  We hope that he does reconsider and come back to the show.

I need to jump in here as I started this.......

I DO NOT feel any one connected to the NNL East has any fault of blame.  I'm not mad at any one....any where. Part of it was on me. At the end of the show I made the rounds to say bye to the many folks I know and only see at shows. Boxes were packed and ready....did one walk off?? Did one get picked up in error? Does not matter any longer. I hope someone does have the stuff rather than it ended up in a landfill!!!!

I DID take a huge financial loss that day.  The 5 display samples where a big loss but there were a few high dollar resin kits in the box too. Among other items.

But the biggest loss to me was that 1956 Ford short track build. I had started that build as a kid in 1976 as the real car I saw run weekly at Metrolina Speedway in Charlotte, NC. I didn't have the skill to finish the build and it sat for THIRTY FIVE YEARS until I had the skill and time to finish it. So it held a lot of personal value with little cash value. So between to $$$ loss and losing some of my favorite things......going back just opens up all that again. Maybe someday I'll get past it and see many of my friends again at the NNL......thx
