cobraman
Does anyone know what color Lumpy's 40 was on the show Leave it to Beaver ? I can not find any color photos. I have heard it was purple but someone else claims it was maroon.
Psychographic
I remember it being said by one of the characters on the show that is was purple. I just did a quick search and two sites reference it as purple. Edited March 31, 2018 by Psychographic
SfanGoch
A guy at Early Ford V-8 Club Forum says he saw the car and it was a faded maroon which looked purple.

OldTrucker
During the show there were several colours mentioned. Purple was one and in another episode where Beaver and Gilbert get Lumpy arrested Wally tells them it was black but Lumpy painted it gray because he could only find gray fenders at the city dump! So it seems black, purple and gray are your choices! Edited April 1, 2018 by OldTrucker
cobraman
Thanks guys. Toying with the idea of building a replica at some point.

Greg Myers
I remember my high school days '61-'65, a lot of my friends had cars like that. Two brothers had a '41 coupe with a hopped up flathead Merc. the other had a '41 todor with a flathead we put a dual two carb manifold on. Best friend a '46 coupe he painted orange. None the less ol Clarence sure looks proud of his ride.
Greg Myers
Wally didn't miss a lick either. Though he didn't have anything left to buy parts after his $25 purchase. I remember all the guys crowding around with all kinds of ideas you could never afford too.
cobraman
Going to build that at some point. Need to finish some wood ship/boat kits first. I think that first photo is when they were going to an amusement park.

#1 model citizen
Just what is Wally's car? I only remember him with a junk early '50's Chevy convertible.
SfanGoch
Wally's first car was a 1936 Ford 5 Window Coupe.
Dave Van
Maroon would make sense as a very popular color in 40.
cobraman
Wally's first car never ran and then after he and his friends tore it apart and Wally finally parted it out and sold the remains to a junk yard.

peter31a
I can still see Lumpy drumming on his steering wheel going zooma zooma zooma.... Didn't Wally end up with a ratty 53 or 54 Chevy convertible?
cobraman
Yes he did get a convertible. The one in the photo above that his dad is looking at they did not buy. Ward ( the dad ) felt the car was not very good.
peter31a
That's what I thought. I remembered that Chevy sedan as having a bad engine or something and that's why he eventually ended up with the convertible.
ChrisBcritter
Wally's convertible was a rare '53 Chevy 210 with fake patina; the car was actually pale green (you can see glossy paint under the patina in some shots) and showed up in several other productions made at Universal. I guess like most teens they had have something different, I'm sure they'll learn better. My favorite episode was when Eddie & Wally chained Lumpy's car & the axle came off when Lumpy took off.
