The new HL by me opened today, pretty good selection of kits

Get used to that picture, it rarely ever changes. It's crazy how every HL across the country has the exact same kits in the same spot on the same shelf. I was at ours today, and I think even the same spots were empty. It's like the Twilight Zone.

The two that I most often visit are pretty wiped out.

That's ok I have a few I want and I never buy them all at once lol....... What I like more was across the isle which was the evergreen and steel rod and tubing. There is no where are here that carries any of that stuff...

Ditto on the HL's all looking the same. I have 10 HL's in a 100 mile radius of me and every darn one of them have 99% the same stock in the same spot. People are buying kits tho.

What's the big deal about the area looking the same in all of the stores?  I'd call it smart...an employee splits his/her time between two stores, they know where everything is.  K-Mart used to be that way too: for the most part, you could walk into any store in the country and be able to find what you were there for without walking all over the store.  It was when they dumped that and tried to go "upscale" that caused them to lose their way...

Yea it’s no doubt carefully calculated do that the essentials are at the back of the store and you have to walk past all the big profit fake antiques to get there!

No different from the supermarkets, where at the checkouts the candy is at eye level for kids in shopping carts...

EDIT: confirming David's post that the 40% off ALL model kits is back.  My HL email came in at 7:40 this morning and there they are!

Looks like the Pocatello Hobby Lobby is sold out of the '59 El Camino.  Just like my closest store, 2000 miles away.  That store had one lonely El Camino kit hanging around for months.  I kept hoping they would mark it down to a Clearance price.  This store once marked down a '65 Lincoln kit to $1.95.

No such luck. I finally got it (with the coupon) because it's a fave and I'm not sure when it will be available again.  Because it's in the big "Art Box," it was down in the lower left-hand corner.  Beside the also-big Revell Land Rover.

We have 3 Hobby Lobbys in this area, all identical like Rich's photo.  Which does look a little Rod Serling-ish, but makes perfect sense when it comes to inventory control/stocking, I guess.

That's pretty much SOP for most retail chains. The industry calls it 'plan o gram'. My son is a manager of a drug store chain. They want each store to look like the others.....AND how each looks is according to a marketing expert's design.  So no real surprise each HL looks like the others.

When I worked part time at Dick's Sporting Goods, that was my only complaint.  Things would get moved and no notice.  I'm old school and appreciate customer service so I hated having a customer asking for something in team sports and I would walk them to where it was yesterday afternoon when I worked.  Today it's two aisles over and on an end cap.

The supermarkets will also move things around every so often.  They don't want people to walk directly to the items on the shopping list, and walk past everything else.  The longer they have you in the store, the more they can sell you.

I ordered some kits several weeks ago with the 40% off, 5 kits total shipping was less than $16 and arrived quickly. Went to local Hobby Lobby and found Ford snow plow and Autocar dump on the shelves that were not on web page and I had never seen either one of on the shelf. I cruised this weeks internet add and noticed Cat dozer and Landrover kit that were not in previous sale flyer and not in store.

They’re WAY slower at putting stuff on the website than they are at putting stuff on the shelves for some reason.  You’d think someone at their HQ could list a new product faster than they could distribute them to stores all over the country...but apparently not.

I just purchased 4 items and got free shipping.
