Kustom '41 Ford COE ramp truck

Recommended Posts

I bought the recently re-issued '72 Chevrolet Racer's Wedge/Pickup on a whim the other day....1763936414_kmkm.thumb.jpg.11213ed47a2adf7a0ff7f67a96c7ab10.jpg

I figured I might build it one day. I started looking at the ramp section of the kit (it also has parts to build a stock pickup truck as well)...while talking with Kit Karson about the kit, he reminded me he had sent me a '41 Ford COE based on a Jimmy Flintstone body that he had started. He had cut off the cab section and replaced it with the cab from a Monogram '40 Ford pickup, while giving the top a slight chop. 188634570_p..thumb.jpg.c0936dffa90b335c507ca3ebcc0ab905.jpg

I mocked it up with wheels and tires form the Monogram Ford F350 and well....another project in the works....

Follow along as I attempt to make this look like something.... -RRR (& KK)

I'm glad you still had those pix, KK!! He does such awesome job, doesn't he? The amazing part is that KK sits and studies the subjects, measuring, eyeballing, scribing, marking, gauging.... and when he grabs the Sawzall, it all fits back together in a  precise manner. Me? I just start whacking and then I fix it in the mix. We get (pretty much) equal results.... -RRR

I haven't made much progress on the COE lately. I did shoot a guide coat of primer, there's a few areas to address, but looks pretty good. My paint has arrived..... vsvf.thumb.jpg.407d7bb1fdcbc546b2272635bf203191.jpg

I did start working on a visor from the Revell '49 Mercury woody wagon. I narrowed it and shortened it...more work to be done it still.

I turned my attention to the ramp this week. I started assembling some of it prior to paint. The minimal MPC instructions leave a few initial questions as far as the open compartments and provided (or lack thereof) interior panels. I fabbed up a few sides not provided to ensure items don't fall out of the compartment!

Interestingly enough, the box art shows that both moveable ramps slide into the area below the main 'floor' of the wedge. 7tfg7tfv.thumb.jpg.3e8bcb56c0ff46b39807ccd300004e2f.jpg

see them tucked in?

well the truth is that both of them DON'T fit!

yhbobouby.thumb.jpg.ee6f0e868912e89f2af9683a469ad6dd.jpg

So, decided to trim off the triangle side parts and add thinner styrene edges to narrow the ramps to fit under. I also shortened them as I won't need them to be so long as the whole COE and ramp will be lowered (praise the lowered).

the new edges need to be sanded up and shaped....I also tidied up the rear valance as it was just left open as per MPC designed it. That will give a nice spot for tail lights and license plate.... -RRR
