kuhnj
For this years BRBO I am going to take the AMT Autocar dump truck kit and build a Leach 2-R Packmaster refuse body to go with it. Hopefully I can get this done by the end of the year. This is my first attempt at scratchbuilding, and I've only built a few big rig kits before this, so my expectations aren't super high. I'm excited to get working on this!
kuhnj
Good day of work today, engine assembled and the frame is mostly together. In the picture the rear cab mount is in the wrong spot, caught that, it is fixed now.

vincen47
This is a great endeavor. I’ll be watching it take shape. I’ve always wanted to scratch build one similar myself, but I read a while back that Keystone had some refuse bodies in the works for 2022, (but no other details), so I thought I’d at least wait to see what they have in store. Round 2 is also bringing out the Garwood body. Are you planning 100% scratch or will you use parts from the Garwood truck?
kuhnj
Thanks everyone! Vincent, I am going to scratch build the body. I always loved the look of the Leach pack masters, and they are relatively simple bodies. We'll see how it goes. Couple long days of building (having to quarantine helps) got some paint sprayed on the frame and cab. Will look pretty good with some light weathering. Will get paint for the engine and transmission once I am able to get out and about again.

kuhnj
Thanks all. Just got out of quarantine, so hoping to get paint on the engine later this week, that's the last major component to be painted. Meanwhile, I got the cab parts on, interior together and painted and couldn't resist taking some mockup photos. It's starting to come together. Interior is a pretty plain black and tan, highlighted the dash a bit. Not my best work but will be hardly visible when it is complete. Mopar - D
Nice progress Judah. What are you using to for the details to build the Leach body?
kuhnj
Thanks Dan. Not quite sure, probably scale drawings (I'll make them if I have to) and styrene, brass. We'll see when the time comes.

Bowtienutz
Judah, please as you go try to include the drawings nd reference material used in scratch building the packer it would be fun to build along. Finding reference material for projects like this is hard to find.

kuhnj
Yeah, those images are definitely going to be helpful. I think I can get some old Leach dimensioned drawings, so that will also be really helpful.
