Smilesperhour Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 I'm not brave enough to even try a power tool ... I feel ill either trash the kit or find I've removed any hope of using finger ID
Gramps46 Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 I really should have known better. I drilled holes first thinking I could control the holes but as I tried to join the holds together and even out the top and bottom things got away from me.
65slotcar Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 nice work Gary, very cool project ! Love the look of the Ford J car. This is one of many future projects.
Gramps46 Posted March 17, 2023 Author Posted March 17, 2023 Hey, it only took 3 days. Maybe I should go back to carving my models from firewood. 3 1
Pierre Rivard Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 You've captured the look well. This should work out just fine sir.
absmiami Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Time to splurge on Foredom hand drill - they go nice an slow unless you mash on the foot pedal - i swear by them - well actually - when its time to change the hand peice- I swear at them …
Gramps46 Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) After finishing off the tail piece. I decided the center and nose were not up to par paint wise. So into the brake fluid they went. Surprisingly the brake fluid took off the top coat of the Tamiya white paint but left the primer. An added benefit was that the side windows were loosened enough that I could pop them out and buff and Future them to get the glue mark out. Now the real challenge is to mask and spray on the dark blue. Mockup of the body. Edited March 23, 2023 by Gramps46 3
Gramps46 Posted March 24, 2023 Author Posted March 24, 2023 While waiting for some paint to dry I tired printing headlights from a photo in my files. It took several tries to get the size right and then to print on photo paper. They will look better once the headlight buckets are painted. 2
Pierre Rivard Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 The mockup looks really good Gary. What is the plan for headlights, printed photos or you have actual parts going in?

What is the plan for headlights, printed photos or you have actual parts going in? I have the original chrome headlights which I am not fond of. I have the Modellers Light Lens Set which I could back with BMF but have not had real good luck with. Or try using the cut out photos which I have not done before. Any suggestions anybody?
absmiami Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Do you have some Molotow to paint the Modeler’s lenses ?

Pierre Rivard Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I would use 1/4 inch punch with 0.5 mm Evergreen to create the 4 bases/bexels, chrome paint it and fix the modelers lenses to it with Canopy or Krystal Clear glue
Gramps46 Posted March 25, 2023 Author Posted March 25, 2023 You beat me to posting Pierre. I used the punch on duct tape and will attach some clear lenses from the parts box and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestions. 2

vamach1 Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Picture from Facebook of a “new” J car built to look as much like the original one as possible. 2
Gramps46 Posted March 29, 2023 Author Posted March 29, 2023 Just a mock up thus the panel gaps. I am not happy with the masking and the blue is too dark so debating whether to strip and repaint. My friend Scott Kercher taught me "if you can see it then others will too."
Gramps46 Posted March 30, 2023 Author Posted March 30, 2023 Splash! That was the sound of the nose and mid-section body going in the brake fluid pond. Then totally without explanation this showed up in a parts box. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 Jeez...how many J1's do you have Gary. I keep seeing new body parts popping up. Now admit it, your parts box is a cargo container right?
