Caught instant karma today. Guy blatantly ran a stop sign and then the cop RIGHT BEHIND HIM!! just pulled him over.

I drive trucks for a living.

It's amazing to me how many people will pass me on a downhill... and then slow down force me to hit the brakes. Your tempting fate if you expect a fully loaded 75,000 pound cement truck to stop before it kills your kids in the backseat.

I have also been cut off by cops ( of all people) turning right from the left lane right in front of me.

I no longer bother trying to stop, I couldn't if I wanted to.

Best driving is country Tennessee roads. when i was in my mid 20's i would ride my motorcycle on country roads....

Right on red you are suppose to stop then go. Not in upstate NY. You are suppose to stop completely at stop signs. Not in upstate NY. You are suppose to stop at red lights. Not in upstate NY. You are not suppose to pass cars on the right hand should at 65 MPH. Not in upstate NY.  And I find the bigger the pick up or SUV it is. The bigger the idiot driving it is.

Unfortunately, this style of driving is more prevalent that you may think. Stop signs seem to be considered only a suggestion. With the advent of ABS braking systems, it is far safer to make right turns thru red lights than it used to be. As for passing another car on the right, what are you supposed to do if the other car is sitting in the fast lane going half of the posted speed limit?

But it is still breaking the traffic rules.  Why not just change all stops to yield signs then?  There are reasons stop signs  are used instead of yield signs.

 Drivers running red lights have a better chance of not getting hit since late model cars usually have ABS brakes.

It was an 8 lane highway David. 4 lanes each way. Bumper to bumper on the Mass Pike. It wasn't someone hogging the right lane.

Um, that is a very interesting way of looking at this.  So you are saying that the driver who has the green light, due to the ABS brakes, will be able to avoid hitting the right-on-red turning idiot driver?   That is one crazy logic!  Drivers should obey traffic rules, or be punished severely enough to teach them to obey the rules.  This "it is all about me" and "I need to get to my destination 15 seconds faster" mentality needs to be expunged. We need for the was to be enforced better than they are.  Otherwise it becomes free for all.

Seriously??? ABS is for slippery conditions, not running red lights. It's not going to keep someone from getting hit.

The tailgaters are the one that drive me the most nuts. Lots of narrow two lanes roads with limited visibility ahead and mostly 35 to 40 mph. An added attraction is a fairly large deer population, which I've had to make a a panic stop when they've come out from the brush on the side road. There's no way they are going to avoid rear ending me if I have to avoid something.

It's gotten to the point I chain a bunch of errands together to avoid the gauntlet  of stupidity they any drive has become these days.

Man, I seem to have set off a storm of question concerning my post on this subject. I should have made it clear that I was trying to show what I believe is the mind set of all too many drivers.

The offender in this case may be thinking, provided they even bothered to look, that the driver with the right of way will be able to slow down or even stop without hitting them. Also, on the ABS subject. ABS brakes are a great assist in stopping or slowing down in driving conditions that have detreated because of weather or other conditions. Normally you wouldn't experience the use if ABS in dry road conditions unless a driver runs a red light or pulls through a stop sign directly in front of you. As for passing on the right-hand lanes, the problem seems to be that many think that they can drive whatever speed the want in any lane they want on a multilane hiway. Every state driver's manual I have ever seen addresses this at some point. Locally here all too many drivers roll through a red light and only stop if someone is coming with the right of way. Stop signs are treated in much the same manor, and as for Yield signs they seem to ignore them altogether. I would like to see law enforcement become more aggressive in sighting these drivers that aren't following the basic rules of the road.

I'm absolutely convinced that ABS brakes of the crossing traffic vehicles are nowhere on the mind of the offending driver (who's either running a red light or turning right on red).  What is on their mind (assuming that there is actually something on the minds of those buttwipes) is to get to their destination quicker.  No time to wait 30 seconds, or stop and look for crossing traffic before turning right on red.  Some of those idiots most likely don't know anything about ABS brakes or even that cars are equipped with ABS.  You give them *WAY* too much credit.  Those are usually selfish mindless dweebs!

Speaking of ABS application on dry pavement, if there are undulation (waves) in the pavement, they actually increase the breaking distance. Speaking from experience here.

That's something I mentioned in my earlier post and something we agree on.  Traffic law enforcement seems to be pretty much non existent.

Yep. The average flow of traffic here is easily 80 mph, even in the slow lane it's 70-75. And posted speeds don't matter.
