sarkasim99 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 So I just finished my 1950 Olds barn find survivor car. This is what I would do to this particular car if I found it in a barn somewhere. Clean chrome, basic interior, but fully functional with the patina intact. Hope you guys like it!
Guest Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Very nice, my only beef is the chrome should have weathering too, it's too shiny compared to the balance, but you did some nice weathering.
jeffs396 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Nicely done Ben! Very realistic As you said in your description, this is what YOU WOULD DO to this car if found in a barn. NOT as found like Lee suggests
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Great job, and entirely believable. Bright trim, especially stainless, is quite resilient if covered and kept out of the rain for many many years, while a questionable re-paint could have failed exactly as you depict it. Cleaning a barn-find car like that could produce just the look you've attained. Sure wish I could find one just like it.
Guest Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 That's pretty danged cool Ben! How did you get that effect? I like it!
slusher Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 That is really cool and not over done. Very realistic. Very nice work..
sarkasim99 Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Thanks guys, I ended up using several coats of Rustall and then hitting the body with a little rubber cement in certain areas. Primer and paint over that, then a little bit of very sticky masking tape and the paint comes up. Thanks for the feedback Lee but like Jeff pointed out, this is what I would do if I found one of these cars in a barn. Re-chrome, and clean it up a little, but drive it like I found it.
Dboy Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Looks just like a car gas monkey garage did in 1:1, very cool
ChrisR Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Looks just like a car gas monkey garage did in 1:1, very cool I agree. Very nice model.
sarkasim99 Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Thanks guys! I was definitely going for the gas monkey garage survivor look!
bbowser Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Add my kudos, great looking model. Very believable.
Jantrix Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I think it looks great and right on the mark for what you are shooting for.
Gramps2u Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 The chrome back then was triple plated & done very well. Unlike todays so called chrome plating nothing like back then. I had a 50 GMC the cab & all was rusted to beat all but the chrome it cleaned up nicely. Being this was a "Barn find" the rust would have been kept to a minimum especially if it were covered up as well. Witnessed a LOT of barn finds myself. Dead on Excellent job!
mnwildpunk Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 nice I like it. The weathering on the roof is very realistic
rmvw guy Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Very cool and nice weathering, it looks very convincing.
