  1. Bill, I can't be sure if the real car is unibody or not without researching it more, but...the blobular chassis in the johan kit looks like a full frame was cast. I might have been misled by shoddy research on the part of the JoHan company product. That being said(typed), I'm fairly certain that anything cobra98 puts under the body will be better than what was supplied in the kit.
  2. since there were no engine photos, he could whip up a custom air filter that wouldn't hide his detail work. Honestly (and not to take anything away from John's talents) I haven't seen John post anything that couldn't be attempted by anyone else here, the maniacs working with metals are another story.
  3. The chicken-egg-model analogy falls apart when dropped from sufficient height to dislodge chicken-egg-model pieces and then returns to the "as described" definition of a kit, IE; multiple pieces not currently connected to each other and not depicting a commonly recognized form.
  4. that's "tubbing"
  5. nice ideas/improvements on existing fixtures. that plier stand is a lot like the idea I'm working on for my mother's huge collection of jewelry making pliers, in my version I will have a metal bar across the top that the pliers will sit on so the wood doesn't get mangled by the pliers.
  6. I'd guess it is a Chicago and/or IL thing, just like "tubing" may just be an Arizona thing. In Arizona, "tubing" is a warm weather activity that involves; hugely inflated tire inner tubes, people, alcoholic beverages and any river/stream wide enough for them to float on.
  7. or another phrase heard at a checkout line: "Did you find everything?" I usually respond "No, if your store was able to hold "everything" then my house would already be here. and I could shop nekkid if I wanted to."
  8. How about "Do you want fries with that?" If I had wanted "fries with that" I would have ordered them already!!!!
  9. I think this thread (where did that term come from...?) has wandered a bit from the "rat rod" query. Don't we already have a thread for butchery of the already bastardized engrish language? oops, reread the first post...carry on with the rants.
  10. I have a Jo-Han '62 F-85 hardtop kit, the only part of that kit that sucks in the detail department is the chassis which has all suspension detail molded in, I think you should only need a chassis from a '60s vintage GM car which wasn't unibody type construction and of similar wheelbase.
  11. did you try removing the emblem from the foil once it was cured? I seem to recall in the tutorial I read (probly in that other magazine/forum) that the cast item was removed from the foil (or vice versa) then attached to the model, maybe I imagined that.
  12. John, great work on that motorcraft carb, I haven't seen anyone put accelerator pump linkage on a carb till now (actually, don't kow how many here would recognize it for what it was...) it's a shame the air cleaner assembly obscures all that work.

    25 T

moving the spark plugs from the exhaust side of the motor to the intake side...that's very bold. nice builds.
  14. >Kelly, I applaud your ambition, Bill has supplied excellent work logs and tutorials. Remembering to check your gaps should ensure the doors will not stick open or closed after you paint it (assuming you don't have 32 coats of clear...), good luck on expanding your skills.
  15. They had to say "conversate" since "engage in oral intercourse" could be totally misunderstood.
  16. (the spelling police have note a violation in your rant, please revise "vicegrips" to "visegrips", thank you for compliance.)
  17. "Hey, can you Canon this for me so I can plonk it to the side of my Maytag?" Just doesn't seem to have the same meaning.

    What if...?

I think calling it a Vettillac works better...
  20. there was also a supermarionation show called Stingray that was submarine based.
  21. Of course there's no antifreeze in the radiater, it all ran out because there's no lower radiater hose... And the tail lights are on upside down too...hah, made ya look. Geez...
  22. Craft stores like Michaels usually have different sizes and colors of wire for jewelry making. A 50% off coupon was posted on this site somewhere also, just can't find it from my phone.
  23. Excellent work on the carb linkage. The rivet counter in me thinks you may be short one radiator hose (or I just can't see it due to photo angle...)
  24. I like it.
  25. Shhh...don't tell him he left the wing window on the passenger side windshield frame.
