Thank you! I went outside my comfort zone with the Daytona, and learned a lot! Already planning a Roadrunner and Dodge L700 to rust up for next year.

Display shelving ideas
Furiousgeorge replied to Furiousgeorge's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is the area I have to work with at the moment. The Carney cases would be best, but I just can't afford them right now. -

I'm quickly running out of display space! Can anyone put up some pictures or ideas to help? I don't have much wall space at the moment, and no space at all for cabinets or other free standing shelves. I've looked at the cases from Carney Plastics, but they're a bit pricy once the shipping kicks in. I'll put up some poctur s of what I've got tomorrow. Thanks!!

I'd entered these in a local show here in Saskatoon, didn't really think I'd get anywhere with them, just entered for the fun of it (each of my kids also entered, and each won a medal! They're pretty stoaked about it!). The show was a while back (the beginning of May), and I just picked up the awards the other day. It wasn't the clubs fault, they were expecting around 100 entries I guess, and got over three hundred! A little overwhelming for them! I won Best Overall Automotive (the barn find Daytona) and Best Factory Stock (blue Charger). Very surprising considering how many other fantastic builds were there! Man I've got to get a real camera, iPhones don't quite cut it.....

Car looks awesome so far! I use white gel pens for wheel lettering, works great!

Thanks! There were a lot of great builds there this year. I know my kids had fun building and entering.

Thanks for the comments! I tend to get excited the closer I get to finishing, and miss things like the tires! I'll fix those soon. As requested, a picture with the hood on, though the blower is actually Gun Metal, not black.

Not a bad kit, front valence panel needs tweeking to fit properly, overall I liked it. Painted with Hemi Orange high temp engine paint.
-
Got this one finished and in Under Glass.

I've had a few that the foil started to peel off, either from handling or just over time (a few months). I cleared over the last one I did, and so far it's good. The wood grain I did by painting Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow, then dry brushing over that with Tamiya X-33 Bronze making the grain effect, then over that with Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange.

Got a bit more done on this one. Interior is finished minus the roll bar, and the engine and foil work. Not a bad kit so far.
-
Thanks! The Hemi Orange shines up pretty well.

Thanks for the comments! I've foiled before the clear on only one other car, and it seemed to work well, though I didn't wet sand the clear on that one. I figure that clearing over the foil will help protect it from the handling it'll get during the rest of the assembly. The paint brand I don't recall off the top of my head, I'll get it for you in the morning. It is a high temp engine enamel, Hemi Orange. A real nice colour, it has some metal flake in it that really looks good after the wet sanding was done.

Got a start on this one. Painted with High-temp Hemi Orange engine paint and wet sanded. Once foiling is done I'll clear and polish it.

Looks great! I love the redlines and steelies!

Thanks! This is the first car I've weathered, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! I loved adding the little things like the rotor and rag. Next time I'm going to try tearing up seats and cracking glass.
-
Finally got this done! I leaned a lot with this build, and look forward to applying that to the next one. I leaned too late that the wings on these cars are aluminum and not steel, otherwise I'm happy with how this turned out!

Got this wrapped up! I'm not sure if I'll keep the distributor cap and wires there or not, they keep the hood from closing. I may put the hinges on the hood and leave it open. More pics in Under Glass.
-
Huh, didn't know that, thanks! Too late tot change it know. One more thing on the list of stuff I've learned on this build.
-
Ok, I finally got some work done on this! Just down to the interior, glass, finishing weathering and dullcote.

1.1 cars that got away
Furiousgeorge replied to l88 chevelle's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine is a '66 Plymouth Sport Fury. An original 383 Commando with buckets, console, power steering and brakes! Loved that car, but had to sell it to help the down payment on our first house. I've been trying to track it down, but can't find it. -
I got the rest of the body and parts painted and de-salted today. Turned out alright. I need to not have as much of the finer bits of salt next time I think, but it I'm happy with it. I just need to touch up a few spots and hit it with some dulcote. Engine wiring and chassis details are next.
-
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind when it's time to do the body! I experimented with salt on the hood and a few other parts, and I think I came out good for my first shot at it!
