  1. I'm in a right-to-work state, Brian. I would be considered (incorrectly) to be a "scab", so no J-man certificate for me. Not for this, anyway. It's not quite done yet and it won't see any primer for a few days due to the cold wave going through. Thanks for your support πŸ€“! Like I always say, Dave, a broken clock is right twice a day πŸ₯΄. I guess the sectioning thing just won't go away πŸ˜•. The lesson learned on this build is "how much a top can be chopped and still be esthetically pleasing depends on a variety of factors specific to the original design" (I'm putting that on my sig line 😏). My mild chop of a '40 coupe πŸ‘‡ is an example. However, it was my original intent to do a radical chop on this '49 Ford platform and, as it turned out, was a bit much for this shoebox style ( going off half-cocked didn't help πŸ₯΄.) To section it now would require way more work on the nose with all the mods that have already been done to this point, including the delicate front hinge. I already learned that lesson, David. It's just too late. The sectioning must include the nose from the very beginning. The only way to do it now would necessarily prohibit the '52 Desoto grille from being used and you don't want that πŸ˜‰. Thanks for your input, Dave, I appreciate it.
  2. Good morning, boys and girls, I've been busy with body work and I just can't wait to show you how it's going 🀠! As you know, I've been stressing over what to do about tail lights. And then I asked myself "what would Virgil Exner do?"......I don't have a clue but I found that custom attachment from the '50 kit in my....I'm repeating myself ☹. Look at the pictures. If you're squeemish, try breathing through your nose slowly till the panicky feeling passes. That wasn't so bad, was lt?
  3. Wow man 😦, after reading all that I need a drink! edit: I especially liked the part about the rocket. I'm getting close to one of those myself πŸ˜•
  4. It came from the AMT '50 kit by way of my body parts junk box and I have used the "pods" vertically on a previous disaster. This time I'm trying something different on this one. Wish me luck πŸ™‚
  5. Slap a deuce shell on it and you're done, bro! πŸ‘
  6. I found this πŸ‘‡ in my junk box. A possible start for tail lights. Maybe. From the '50 'vert kit. This is what I used on that ☝one
  7. I have one of those in my stash, Rick, I'll go have a look right now. Thanks!
  8. That's about all I can do with it, Len - blue dots. Frenching is a recipe for disaster with the way the body is molded. The shape is irregular. If it was properly shaped, I might stand a chance but the kit lights are my only option at present. I may try another one of these πŸ‘‡ but I wanted to keep the "wind-split" for identity purposes. This treatment would totally erase it. I'll have to go fishing for something in my junk boxes.
  9. This project was and still is an experiment, Dave. The hood job was not planned but turned out to be a fairly successful experiment. If I actually wanted to pancake a hood, there are things I would be aware of that I learned on this one. The kit dictates, to some degree, what may be done and what may not. There are some things the kit will not allow unless you are willing to compromise . That's what I had to do. Another builder might have done it much better than I did using a different method. I have no illusions about it.
  10. That might work, Len, and I have considered a side trim job of some sort. There was a suggestion for pie-sectioning the rear. I can't imagine how to do that. This body is a ridiculously easy section but the mods up front would necessarily need to be involved. I still don't have an idea for tail lights. Freeking tail lights have me stumped. 😣 This situation needs some time to find its own way. There's plenty to do while that's going on. You were right about the Plymouth grille thingies, Len, but unfortunately David's idea won the day.
  11. Your comments are always objective, David, and I appreciate it. Now that it's in primer again, it's easier to see the shape it's in. I do think, though, I took a bit too much off the top. I am having fun with it but it's time to start wrapping it up. Better planning would have made this build a little easier but most of these projects start out with a single idea and then it goes its own way. Then I clean up after it.
  12. I asked Wifey and surprise! She said yes! (It may cost me later, she'll want something- like another $300 paper crafting machine or maybe a treadmill πŸ˜ͺ ) I dunno....I think it gives the old gal a touch of class πŸ˜€ There's a whole lot of stuff I need to correct. πŸ™. I think I'm back to the '52 grille though. David's suggestion convinced me. Thank you!
  13. OK so, ive got a no for David, and Lenny wants me to flip it over. πŸ€”. Perhaps we should wait for the rest of the jury to weigh in. Gold tooth? Only one? ......😏.....Yeah! πŸ˜ƒ....no.

  15. Fantastic! When do we sing? πŸŽ‚πŸ₯³
  16. Okay, what about this one? Maybe I should get some primer on the whole car now...yeah. πŸ˜•
  17. Yes indeed! I like what you've got so far, Mike. I bought the "Craftsman" kit at Ollie's a while back and I wish I had done what you did; converting to a two door. It's a natural, really. Nice work!
  18. Busy day, today. Had to bring her first to the Dentist and after that, the Optometrist. Everything turned out okay, though. She got a new set of dentures (she's in her mid-seventies, after all 😬) and a new script for contacts lenses. These dentures were bothering her, she complained, so it was time for a better fit She had trouble seeing the television so we got her some French lenses. Okay, it's a bad analogy but filing those tiny round things down with my sorry-a$$ hands was quite a task so bear with me. πŸ₯΄ Below is a quick guide to Desoto grilles just in case you were wondering. Top to bottom they are '52, '53, '54, and '55. Thanks for your patience πŸ˜‰
  19. Sorry, Paul, that's a no for me. I still need to find a tail light idea or it's gonna be factory.
  20. Well, Topher, I'm about to stand with them again.
  21. Learning from the mistakes of others is a pretty good philosophy, David. The chassis is a done deal and the body is experiencing some re-thinks at the moment. The tail light issue needs consideration and I'm on the fence about skirts. Then there's the side trim and the bumper question. It's has taken on a life of its own. 🧟
  22. Thanks Greg. I have not thought of using it for BMF. It's sorta grippy and I think it could tear the foil but it's worth trying; it could save a lot of swabs 😏.
  23. Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I'm going with Mr. Hobby stuff for primer and prep. It seems to be a reliable system. Paint will be a dark color as yet to be determined. It will be shiny, though.
