  1. If we could build the kits without really looking at the 1:1 subjects, we would probably love a lot more kits, we study a subject top to bottom and when we get to the kit we can see the errors easily. I'm just thinking back to when I was a kid and building the "Heavy Chevy" 70 Chevelle. It probably has all kind of errors, but being a kid, I had never seen a real chevelle, I wouldn't have known if something was right or wrong.
  2. Thanks Brudda, but they really aren't to bad, the paint job is basically a two tone paint job, the decals make the transition look nice, the decals go down ok, just be patient and use the setting solutions.
  3. I agree completely, the new lindburg and revell challenger SRT-8 super bee Kits were both like this for me, just awful work on the kit makers part, the body shape was all wrong, at least to my Eye it was, I didn't finish either one...
  4. Man that brings back memories, I built all those when I was a kid, none of them turned out that good though. Beautiful build!
  5. Hey, if you guys want to come over and get your OCD impulses out on my hobby room, that would be cool. It needs a serious straightening up!
  6. You can get silent airbrush compressors with tanks, check out airbrushcity.com they have them.
  7. Thanks guys! ZTony, your crazy bro! It took me 2 days with setting solutions! A hair drier does make things go a lot easier though. Yeah flatliner, I think your right, the first one I did I used the tamiya Ferrari red, this time I used model master lacquers Ferrari red and it was even farther off, Model master lacquer Chrysler red matched pretty good, I used it for touching up a couple places where the decals didn't want to behave. Yours looks great, my biggest gripe with these kits is the lack of detail on the interior, but its not very visible, so I guess it's not a huge deal. They still build great!
  8. I would love to get a yellow tang, I'm still debating on if I have enough room for one in a 90, some say its ok, others say you need 120+ for one. I definitely want a couple clownfish, a purple firefish, possibly a couple yellow headed jawfish, and I don't know what else. A mandrin fish would be cool, but that ones gotta wait for awhile.
  9. Thanks guys! Thanks guys!
  10. It is, this is just a quarintine tank with some weird black slug sort of thing that came from the live rock, I've got a 90 gallon I'm setting up in the living room. There are a lot of people that have small salt tanks like this one, but you have to stay on top of taking care of it, changes happen fast with that small of a tank.
  11. This is a sheet of paint that came off the hood, keep in mind, this is at least two layers of urethane clear coat, a couple coats of tamiya flat aluminum acrylic, and a coat of model master lacquer. The lacquer seemed to have dissolved as the alcohol was blue. Anyway, check out the hood vent detail. The hood is smooth and when it's dry (I washed and rinsed it really good) it will be ready for a new coat of primer.
  12. Very nice! I love a good mustang!
  13. Hey, I didn't even notice the tank when I was looking earlier. I've got a 10 gallon saltwater in my hobby room right now. Like cobraman said, what kind of fish you got???
  14. I spray just about everything at 14-16 psi. I have a small 2 gallon compressor I got for free from a friend that upgraded and didn't want it anymore.
  15. I don't know, I guess it would since it will strip a plating, but your gonna have to try that one, I found this by spilling a bottle of alcohol on my desk and watching it wrinkle off overspray on my cutting mat. The paint will literally come off in sheets, it doesn't dissolve it as much as it breaks the adhesion to the plastic. There is a little sanding to do afterwards, but it works a lot better than oven cleaner for me. BTW, I strip my chrome parts the same way.
  16. I use it to thin my urethane clear coats. Works great for that to!
  17. I don't know that I would vote for box stock, but I don't think I would do the blower, just my two cents, I'm not a fan of the huge blower sticking threw the hood.
  18. Thanks Jim. The decals are pretty intimidating when you first dig into it, but they go down pretty good. I built the #22 Motul version a few years ago before I had heard of micro sol or set... Lets just say considering that, it doesn't look to bad!
  19. A quick, mostly box stock build. I did add a little carbon fiber to the chassis and wing. All comments welcome and thanks for looking.
  20. 91% isopropyl alcohol works great to strip lacquer and urethane paints and clear coats. I have a mustang body with a couple coats of clear on it and a couple coats of lacquer paint that I needed to strip and redo. I filled a storage Tupperware container about halfway up the body and sealed it up, let it sit overnight, about 6-7 hours, and this morning, the paint is coming off in sheets! I didn't take any pics, but the fumes must do some damage to, the car was upside down and the paint on the bottom of the car was peeling off to. Next time you need to strip a body, try this, it's a lot easier on the lungs and it won't do anything to the plastic.
  21. I remember when dad would buy it for me to keep me entertained and out of his hair for awhile, probably seemed like a value to him, but I never paid attention to the prices, well, until I went to the hobby store and about fell over when they told me how much 6 bottles of paint were!
