Here is a video of some of these cars racing. Aoshima makes allot of different versions of the Skyline including the Coca Cola version in this video but there not avilable in the USA and have to be ordered from Japanese vendors like HLJ or Hobbysearch.com Japanese Gr. 5

It is a curbside but it has a really nice detailed interior. I have 2 kits of the R30. One is the Aioshima and the other is Gunze Sangyo. The Gunze version is similar to this one.

I am starting this one now.

Model looks good. Remember my tip for decals is use hot damp cloth pressed over the decals and it will conform instantly without wrinkles. Try it you'll like it.

The yellow should be brighter than that pic. Tamiya's TS-16 or Krylon Sun Yellow(these two are identical shades) would be fine.

The chrome silver is most likely an enamel which you put lacquer over top. You might get lucky sometimes and get away with it. Avoid putting lacquer over enamels.

I did get a new camera, my old one was a Kodak I bought in 2000. I got a Fuji Finepix s1500. It has 12X zoom and gets down to a half inch away for close-ups. My old camera wouldn't get any closer than 5". And don't forget the "pink" seatbelts, this camera does reds very good. You can get Zymol at Wal-mart,Target and Autozone for about $12. A bottle goes along way.

Thanks. I use Future carefully wiped on with the throw away round cosmetic pads, a Q-tip is used for smaller areas. Then some Zymol brand wax, other brands of wax take the Future off when rubbing.

Swany, Here is a pic of the front grill. It is separate but molde in black. I painted semi-gloss black then foiled th grill surround and very carefully painted the red trim with Tamiya Acrylic. The Acrylic was cleaned off by scraping with a toothpick dampened with Ammonia where it went over the edge. Ialso scratchbuilt the small square screens and there framework because the kit pieces are solid clear plastic with an engraved screen.

Thanks Ed. I used the Fujimi 71 Lemans winner 917K. I did use some photo etch parts from Studio 27.
-
Thanks, no it is the Hasegawa kit, I have never seen one in the USA. I ordered from Rainbow Ten in Japan at about $33 with shipping included.

Some more pics testing my new camera.

I just got a new camera after 8 yrs. I got a Fuji Finepix s1500. i am just learning how to use it, let me know how these look. Sorry to NickF40 there won't be anymore pink seatbelts with this camera it handles reds allot better than my old one.

Great job Chris. Did you paint the red areas?. I have to get around to doing th Bontempi version. I have this decal sheet. Here is one built by somebody else.

I feel a little down now that it's over. Congrats to Peugeot. I think the 908 is one of the most serious looking race cars ever. It hasbeen faster than the Audi's for awhile. I think Audi lack of real racing time with the new car did not help. After I finish about 1 and hours more I will have watched the entire race. I never get tired of it, the racing , the stories the work on the cars and the sheer history of this race keep me loving it. If you get on to Speed's online coverage it was very high quality video with full motion just like watching HDTV. It is a shame there isn't more(affordable)kits of these cars. Profil24 has a mockup already of the Gulf Aston-Martin. Great race, great cars on a great track. Here is a link to great site for pics and info on the race and sports car racing. decal question...need help!!
935k3 replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If they are yellowed on the sheet before applying a few days taped to a sunny window will clear them up. Are they Monogram decals? They had allot of excess glue that needed cleaned off before drying. If it is hazy or foggy around edges and not yellow it may be silvering which is possible even if a glossy base is under it, especially over dark colors. MicroSol set underneath can help with that. -
To get even more excited for the race I like to listen to all the qualifying over the net on Radiolemans.com on wednsday and thursday afternoon before saturday's race. I think some people at work think I am nuts when they here engines roaring coming from my computer. This race has always been the most important race in the world to me. I feel sorry for those racefans who don't understand what this race is all about because they think only a close race is racing. There is so much more to racing for a true car enthusiast. Enjoy it while we can because I believe with things going the way they are in the car industry the powers that be will be out to kill performance cars and racing which some may look at as the ultimate glorification of the burning of fossil fuel, to those I say that's what it is here for!

Ligier Matra - Monza 1978
935k3 replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That first vidoeo of the Matra reminds me of Mr. Ferrari once said "there is a music in the noise", how true. -
Nice job Lyle, I am still amazed that you never use an airbrush. Your stuff always looks clean and realistic.

Dcanting paint without wearing it?!
935k3 replied to chris coller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Chris, If you can find them get some of the paper cone shaped cups used for spring water etc. I got some at a restaraunt supply store in Shiremanstown near the Capital City Mall. Just cut the end off stick in the airbrush bottle and spray into cone. -
Signs of the end of the world as we know it.

You do not understand the whole situation. First of all mr Ferrari's philosophy was he sold street cars only to support the racecars, his first priority was racing. Ferrari wants to spend whatever it takes to win. The FIA plan is if you will submit to only spending 40m euros you will be able to have a range of things you cannot have now including unlimited engine revs,4 wheel drive and cockpit adjustable wings to name a few. You would end up 2 tiers fof racecars.
