Tamiya's older kit of the Williams FW07 F1 car can be built as one version for certain races that actully has a Bin Laden sponsor decal, It was propabey his Dad's construction business. The car raced in 1979.

Need Help Withe Future Floor Polish
935k3 replied to stanleymsn's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Future will crack over Tamiya's Acrylics and I have had it crack over Testor's Enamels. Do not sand it down, try taking a 50/50 mix off ammonia and Future and wiping it over cracked area. It can be reflowed and fixed by doing this. It can also be easily rmoved with ammonia which will not touch any paint execept Tamiya Acrilics. I have always applied by carefuly wiping it on, I use disposable cosmetic pads. Iw ould not use over any Acrylic paints just to be safe. -
I would apply a good white glue like Microscale KrystalKlear or Formula 560 canopy glue under the decals. Exces will wash away with a damp tissue or Q-Tip.
-
No I haven't. I have one built and one unbuilt already though. It's one of the best kits ever made.

I got to see this car race at Pocono Raceway when they had IMSA races there. I have one painted white but have not painted the blue yet. I got mine to have working steering but you have to remove those humps on the chassis right behind the front wheels. They look stupid any way. Unfortunately Monogram's decals for these do not look too good up close, but as far as I know nobody does any decals for them.

I am starting this one now, I will be engineering the fit and assembly, then paint the body for now. I usually only do that much in the summer then build complete in the fall and winter. Mainly because of my electrical layout I cannot airbrush over the summer. I am looking for to building this historically significant car. It is the 1967 1000km of Nurburgring winning Chapparal 2D. This is the Modeler's kit which is far better than the Monogram kit. The moulded open wheels and the tires are beautiful. There are polished metal parts for the gas caps and rearview mirrors. It is a curbside with a moulded in the chassis engine.

Thanks everybody and yes I am planning on being there.

Just finished tonight, "Moby Dick" Porsche 935-78.For a motorized curbside it does make a decent shelf model.
-
Moby Dick Porsche 935-78. Decals finished and Future and wax applied. Touch up and cleanup then add all the details. Not a decal job for the faint of heart.

Nice work so far. I like your style of building, I spend allot of time pre-engineering for sturdiness and fit. I am amazed at allot of very nice models in all other aspects but the builder does not address fit issuesw ith the main bodywork. BTW thanks for your thread on Plasticote Primer, I had not used it in years and forgot how great the stuff is, it sands beautifully smooth and drys quick. It is a little hard to find but I went to their site and found a dealer in my area.

I did post it when completed but you can post any pics you want. Thanks

Purple Power Degreaser,Easy Off Oven Cleaner(yellow label only) and I have successfully used 91%Alcohol. Scale Coat is way to pricey.
-
Actually it's the Porsche 935-78 that was nicknamed Moby Dick because of it's long tail section. This a an old motorized kit. I scratchbuilt most of the Roll cage and foot pedals. Paint is Krylon White. Wheels are a mixture of Tamiya bright red and flourescent red.Guages were drawn in Autocad and printed out. Rear window is tinted yellow to match real car.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
935k3 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Purple Power works good on most paints except I got quicker better results on Tamiya and Duplicolor laquers with 91% Alcohol., it tuened Duplicolor clear laquer to goo in 20 min. I have even stripped Krylon with it. ScaleCaot is getting very expensive(around $12 bucks a pint). -
Indycar Season Opener At Homestead

I hope we still have F1 next year because SPEED's contract runs out this year. For those who would knock F1 remember that on this planet F1 is king and second only to soccer in money and viewership. Just look at the costs of building an F1 car(estimated at $14 milliion each) and a NASCRAP that can be built for $120,000(that might get you 2 F1 steering wheels). And of course F1 can even brag their fines are bigger, just ask Mclaren about their $100 million dollar deficit. NASCAR is all about personalities not the cars(no wonder their boring old technology).Longe live the king. And how do you even compare little 1/2 mile tracks to the beauty and majesty of tracks like Spa. -

SPEED needs their heads examined, they take off world class rally championship racing and give us grown men racing lawnmowers. I have not heard much lately about it but the guy who originally owned Speed Channel is not happy with the way it is now and wants to start a new racing channel. I hope he does, I for one have had enough of NASCAR's ######! I ams sad to say that it says something about our country if people would wrather watch lawnmower races over WRC. -
Floor Polish Question.(future?)
935k3 replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the UK it is known as Johnson's Klear. Here is a useful link that explains it all. Future -
Try applying ZYMOL brand wax over the Future, it deepens the gloss annd improves the shine. Other waxes seem to remove the Future.

I have an Iawata Eclipse and you can immediately tell it is a beautiful precision piece. They are one of the Industry standards. If you saw the post of the inside of an Aztek you realize it's a toy compared to real airbrush.
-
Great job so far. This really is a beautiful racecar, I am glad I got to see it race. It really was a Lola, they made some beautiful cars over the years. On interesting thing about these full ground effects cars was the brake lights did not come on untill they were in the turn not before it. The ground effects made for very effective braking.
-
To prevent them you can put small thin strips of masking tape on the sharp edges before polishing. I have touched some cars up carefully painting with a pint brush along the line or masking and airbrushing. Black cars are the easiest, I just use a Sharpie.

Thanks everybody for the compliments. I was a little concerned about these decals and I had an extra set for that reason. Brendan I built the Black Box kit of the flipper 99 CLR, these pics of mine were used for advertising the kit. I am good friends with Ron of Black Box and he asked me to build the first one, I also made the instructions for the kit.
